A long-delayed commission still in progress, but now with something tangible to show at least, the Folly of Man incarnation of Red Moon (and Erabus, pending).
Although this may seem like a radical departure, almost nothing is known of Red Moon's appearance, as the original script gave few details beyond a scary face with one eye, and wings. It's not even known if Red Moon was actually supposed to be red. Erabus fares just a bit better, as she is stated to resemble a tree and a have glossy skin. Any actual illustrations of the two kaiju were only done decades afterwards from secondhand accounts. This rendition fuses the attributes of the two sexes together.
Most of Red Moon's body is a florafaunal construct created from gnarled and entwined branches of chitin and cellulose that grow out from the smaller true body, which makes up the "head". These are controlled by a massive network of auxiliary nerves which also grant the species exceptional psionic capabilities. A sap-like blood rich in regenerative compounds allow for rapid growth and regrowth, but the outer shell of a body can be discarded should it prove a detriment somehow or get too damaged. The shell varies widely between individuals; the differences in appearance between Red Moon and Erabus are just variations on their outer shells, not sexual dimorphism.
Red Moon's wings only exist temporarily, they are in fact created from entwined sheets of silk-like sap which is ejected from glands on the wing "fingers", that rapidly expand into a lifting surface upon release and attach to the body. Its flight is not good, but it is good enough to keep it aloft, can be discarded so as not to get in the way when walking, and damage to them is inconsequential due to their disposable nature.
While most redesigns turn Red Moon into a reptilian creature, I opted for the unconventional approach, as often does, and made him (and Erabus, by extension) into an arthropod, some sort of crustacean, because those naturally have a single eye. Also, he can shoot a beam from his eye because the original script said he could; how he does so is pending, maybe an electro-neurologic thing.
Future developments also pending for the final version, which will be posed more dynamically alongside Erabus.
