WWD: Caulkicephalus trimicrodon
Added 2023-05-18 06:30:59 +0000 UTCThe taxon which represents the generic, unnamed pterosaurs which appear in the episode (which I think might be recycled from the Quetzalcoatlus model in the last episode). You see a flock of them cruising over the waves and the Ornithocheirus steals a fish from one of them. They didn't really get to explore the full spectrum of pterosaur niches beyond "eats bugs" and "eats fish" in the series, but then again, at the time of the series, basically all pterosaurs were considered to belong to one of those two categories.
This is another Wessex Formation species, known from marginally better remains than most other pterosaurs of the formation (but that's not saying much). It does look rather than Pteranodon with teeth, although the size and shape of the crest is largely conjectural, as only the base is known. With a projected five-metre wingspan, this was no pushover in terms of size, only a bit smaller than our Uktenadactylus protagonist, but small enough to be a victim to his kleptoparasitism.
