When I was advocating for manbird, I drew up this ice age ancestor to it; the equivalent of the early hominid stage where it was still facultatively bipedal rather than obligately, and had only recently become terrestrial from an arboreal ancestor. Behaviourally, it was something of a mix of baboon, chimpanzee, and some sort of small ground bird. Sadly, this did not convince Sheather to let manbird in.
This ornkey would have lived in and around the cactaiga groves, following the game trails created by thorngrazers and were extremely adaptable and communal generalists. While these were still rather social, as they grew larger and more strictly folivorous, they became dumber and didn't require social connections for protection against predators as much anymore.
I didn't end up writing much for it because Sheather rejected the idea.
