It Hungers - the story so far

Since we're about to dive into the last section of the storyline, here's what has transpired so far.

New superhero Renegade saved a man from muggers, only to discover that the man was a vampire, despite being out in broad daylight. He hypnotized Renegade and turned him into a vampire.

The superhero Wraith confronted his nemesis, the sorcerer Xun. Xun defeated and seduced our young guardian but then did not kill or mind-control him. While trying to decide what exactly to do with the young man, Xun senses a tremendous burst of necromantic energy: the creation of a new and powerful vampire.

Though Xun is technically a supervillain, it's impossible to create havoc in a city run by vampires so he and Wraith go looking for this source of death energy. They find Renegade, who bites Wraith and laughs at Xun's attempt to kill him.

Newly-turned vampires are mindless eating machines, but Renegade is different, with advanced powers and the ability to walk in sunlight. Xun is dismayed and confused by this but first must spend a great deal of his power to save the life of his former enemy. Much as he wants to deny it, Xun has fallen in love with Wraith.

Meanwhile, the gangster bitten by Renegade rises as a full vampire and infects his near-dead companions. They begin hunting and turning citizens. The plague quickly spreads.

The other superheroes have no idea what has happened to Renegade so they include him in their various activities, but he is quickly found out and escapes as Wraith and Xun show up to defeat him. Wraith later insists Xun meet with the other heroes to discuss this problem. It does not go so well, as Xun and Black Tiger have some history, but Wraith patches things up and convinces Xun to help. Xun infodumps to the group about how vampires are made and emphasizes that someone more powerful than Renegade is his master.

We see Renegade's master later, and it turns out he has a boss as well, a boss he's trying to impress.

Renegade hypnotizes his former best friend Bobcat into his service, then they do the same to Lynx, to have spies in the hero's camp. Lynx is found out by Xun when he reports; they remove the taint from Lynx.

Xun also finds that Black Tiger smells of the master vampire that fed on him months ago - al-Nassir, the ancient and powerful Prince of Worms. He is uncertain why Black Tiger is not al-Nassir's slave but they surmise that al-Nassir must be the ultimate master in the chain and that Renegade's master must be one of his spawn. However the flood of vampires infecting the city are... not his doing; they are broken and degenerate creatures already falling apart.

Unfortunately for everyone, Superstar returns to Iron Harbor after resting from the events of the Gang War and is picked up by ... Renegade and his master. They hypnotize Superstar into their service and begin to seduce him. Vampires use sex to lure and control, and having the Avatar of Priapus on Earth under his control would make the master invincible.

While Superstar is being guided into vampiric servitude our heroes destroy the main vampire nest in the abandoned railyards.
