RJ Ramblings

Hi there, glad you like the game and the ramblings. I have one novella up on Amazon right now called Claiming Dana by RJ Rhodes. You're welcome to read it, but I warn that it is not as polished as some of my other stuff. It was an experiment that led towards me starting developing the game. It will also spoil some of Dana's future story in the game. My other novels I wrote under my real name so unfortunately, I cannot share here.

I understand. It took me a few tries to get into Dark Souls. But then something clicked and I just kinda got it and after that, I was hooked. I'll play anything that Fromsoft makes at this point. I think Elden Ring is quite a bit more accessible. It's a little more forgiving, it explains things a little better, and if you hit a point that you can't get past, since it's open world, you can just go do something else instead. There's always something else to do, get better, gain levels, then come back to the hard stuff.

Nice! Thanks for the synopsis, I appreciate it. I kinda noped out of the first* Dark Souls game, but I might give this one a try, especially if it's at all like Breath Of The Wild. (* - At least I think it was the first. It's been almost a decade, and died horribly and repeatedly, IIRC.)

Well, I've always been a big fan of Dark Souls and that style of combat. Every button press matters - you can't just mash and expect to win. You have to learn enemy patterns and find the best way to attack. I like that a lot. Elden Ring takes that combat that I love and puts it in an open world game that feels like Breath of the Wild or something - another game that I adore. Just the massive scale of the game is incredible. I've played for about 80 hours now, and expect another 20-40 out of it. And the level design in every bit of the map just perfect. There's like a hundred different dungeons to explore and they're all fun and interesting. And though story is not a huge part of these games, I do like the characters in most Dark Souls games, including this one. Some of the characters here are really cool and I like seeing their stories progress as you play. It is the most polished and complete Dark Souls game and it's been amazing seeing a lot of people who have not been into the Souls series in the past really embrace this one. There's just so many ways to play it, and I think that everybody should give it a try.

I'm curious what about Elden Ring sets it above other games for you? (I've watched reviews and whatnot, but I'm curious about the opinions of people whose sensibilities seem somewhat like my own, and none of my friends have bought it yet.) Good luck at the dentist!
