LSS QUICK TIP: PHASE COHESION + MIXING KICK/SUB

one of the issues with playing different notes w/ your sub basses is dealing with phase and the relationship of how your kick drum will interact with your sub bass.
if you tune your kick to a D, for example, you'll be fine when you play a D sub in most cases - but when you switch that sub note to an F - you're going to see bow-ties in your metering. this means you're pushing out less energy to the speakers, and means your mix isn't going to hit as hard as it could - you're not filling up as much space in the waveform as possible.
quite often we love writing songs with less melodic movement - maybe you'll play one note and at most change the note a semi-tone once in awhile to keep it sounding "tough". but on the melodic stuff, this problem can be a pain to solve.
so, in this video i demonstrate how i approached solving this on a recent remix i'm working on with minimal effort by mapping phase to velocity!
