How Obi-Wan Kenobi's fight changed everything

Apologies that this video is maybe twenty minutes earlier than the public one, there were some issues, but now there are not, huzzah!

But it does skip the sponsor read, so...yay?

Of course if you'd like to see me make mozzarella then you can also watch the public video, but if you're just here for the exhaustive Star Wars fight commentary then that's good too!

How Obi-Wan Kenobi's fight changed everything

This video was excellent. I loved the Obi-Wan series. I was a bit dubious about how Vader and Obi-Wan were going to fight in between episode 3 and episode 4 given the line when I left you I was to learn her but now I am the master spoken by Vader. So we all assumed that meant the last time they were together was when Anakin was a Padawan learner or at least Anakin Skywalker not Darth Vader in the suit. The way the writers were able to insert a few more Obi-Wan/vader duels made sense with that line from episode 4. And of course your assessment of the fight choreography was spot on excellent. They also did a great job of making the line that Darth Vader killed Anakin makes sense by having Anakin himself literally till Obi-Wan that Obi-Wan did not kill him, Vader killed Anakin. Also young Leia was just amazingly awesome I could totally see that little girl turn into Carrie Fisher / princess Leia from episode 4 and empire

Fantastic analysis of more than 40 years of Kenobi vs Vader duels! Given your attention to how emotion and stagecraft influence fights, I'd love to see your analysis of the SC38 Reimagined duel between Kenobi and Vader (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=to2SMng4u1k) stands up to the original as a part of the overall Vader vs Kenobi story

I got them from Etsy a long time ago, along with some glittery Rebel Alliance firebirds 😁

Thank you!

When your opponent is younger and fitter, you need to be smarter 😁 Luckily for Ben, this is not too hard.

Ah, good one!

The series itself was…okay, but I loved the moment when it all came together.

it's been a while since i watched it, but i believe Obi-Wan uses thrusting attacks in his fights against Grievous. which makes sense, as trying to out wait someone who has 4 lightsabres when you have 1 could get you killed, so Obi-Wan is more aggressive until he gets ride of at least 2 of Grievous's sabres.

I love how Obi Wan and “Darth Anakin” parallel to a metaphoric reality. I’ve worked and competed with a younger generation where they are aggressive and rely on flat-out naive physicality and stamina, whereas I and others born in the late 20th century had to adapt from what we know and are comfortable with to do what is necessary. We don’t very much like it, but we “do what we must.” Long game vs short game.

First of all, your earrings in this video are just *chef's kiss.* But, yes, I knew you'd break down these fights as spectacularly as they were staged. The shift from Obi-Wan's defense and retreating to pressing the attack and keeping Vader off-balance is key to his growth since the end of ROTS. He's no longer Qui-Gon's headstrong Padawan or a tired general in the Clone Wars. He's a Jedi Knight protecting Anakin's kids, and he has to strike back. Easily one of my favorite videos you've done!

This is a fantastic analysis of this series. The progression we see of Obi-Wan is pretty plain to see. The ultimate hit to his ego/pride/faith is that he remembers what and who he used to be and that feeds into his depression and PTSD. One thing I have always noted, is that Obi-Wan is always strongest when he fighting to protect someone. Not an ideal or political idea, but a person. We see that in both the movies and the Clone Wars series. Protecting young Leia (and that little girl was phenomenal) really brought his connection to the Force back to him. Thank you for this video! It's now among my favorites. Also, where did you get those amazing earrings? They were awesome!

After watching that fight I definitely got the importance that it connected the young Obi-Wan fighting style with the old Obi-Wan fighting style. It was fantastic.

I do love Obi-wan’s flashy spinning but mostly for the aesthetic twirliness. Narratively it always made sense to me that he had chosen a defensive style after Qui-gon’s more aggressive approach really didn’t work… so I like the idea that he has reassessed and choosen a different approach. I also like to idea that he is no longer upholding the ideals of the Jedi order and doesn’t have a lot to loose so… “sure I will stab the hell out of you and when that doesn’t work throw all the rocks and the kitchen sink while I’m at it!”

Thanks, Jill!!!!!!

I cannot wait to watch this!
