FIGHT ME (More!)

I hope you enjoy this (extended) insight into the sorts of things I actually do when I disappear for three days on a stage combat course! (And if you're in the area for the summer course, I'd love to see you there!)

Excellent, thank you both very much!

Jill Bearup

Amazing, thank you!

Jill Bearup

I may want to check that out, too--always curious about good books on fighting with pointy things!

@RRM I can second Nick Evangelista's book "Art and Science of Fencing", excellent book, and the author's enthusiasm really comes through. I mentioned over in the YouTube side of the world another one (not sport fencing, but historical recreation) that might be more in line with Jill's interests John Clement's "Renaissance Swordsmanship" which breaks down a bunch of historical research on the subject as well, I found it very helpful.

Former fencing instructor here. Looking over a few of my books, the first two that look like they're most likely useful for your situation are: _The Art and Science of Fencing_ by Nick Evangelista (c. 1996, Masters Press) and _Fighting With Sticks_, also by Nick Evangelista (c. 1998, Loompantics Unlimited). Both have quite good illustrations, and generally good descriptions of what the goals are (particularly _The Art and Science of Fencing_, which I spent more time with). Evangelista tends to be paying attention to form, which I am guessing is more of what you would be interested in modifying for stage work (rather than getting points as quickly as possible, in competitive sport fencing). I have other books I can look at to see if I think they might be useful, especially if you can't get your hands on either of these for some reason. Just let me know if you'd like to me to look. Hope that's helpful!

Also, have a nice birthday. Or hope you had a nice birthday.

Anders

I’m well, but thank you for asking 😊

Jill Bearup

Are you alright? I had a nightmare that you were... sick? I think, and now I'm worried.

Anders

Bucklers are handy...

Jim Sanderson

Thank you! Sadly it is not actually mine :) But I am considering buying my own!

Jill Bearup

They are a lot of fun. And yes, autocucumber has let you down! :)

Jill Bearup

I See...What You Did There. XD

Jill Bearup

I like your buckler.

Fencing for beginners: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/185440485735?hash=item2b2d1d4167:g:c8oAAOSwo99ijiTO because deliberately misinterpreting stuff is funny ... sometimes.

Pretty sure I misspelled Scoundrel...yup, there it is. My autocorrect is whacked.

I'M hyped for YOUR Sword and Scondrel summer course! That is a fun video I am definitely looking forward to! I wish courses like this were offered within striking distance; it would be so much fun!
