December Update
Added 2023-12-10 23:02:28 +0000 UTCHey, y'all! It's been a while since my last update so I wanted to chime in. The holidays have, rather predictably, hampered my production quite a bit. Still, a good amount of work has been done. If you haven't been on the discord server, you may have missed the following
- The mini map and GUI has gotten a major overhaul.
- The code that will handle scripted scenes such as giant interactions and dialogue is finally complete enough to start extensive testing with.
- Maps in general are now more complex, allowing me to create hidden areas, use fog-of-war style map exploration, and pretty much everything I could do before in quest and then some.
There are some other updates but those are the major ones. So, this all took a lot longer than I had hoped but I think I'm finally nearing a preliminary alpha release. Plans for the first alpha are fairly simple. I will be releasing it only for current and past patrons. Gameplay will amount to a tech demo showcasing a simple recreation of the intro, basic character creation, a couple simple giant interactions, some scripted battles, and a bit of free roaming.
That may sound like a lot but it will be pretty brief. Part of the reason I am only releasing it to patrons is because of its incomplete and likely buggy state. After that, heading into the new year, I've made some personal life changes that, while not specifically for this reason, will give me more free time to work on the game. I'm hoping to release alphas as quickly as possible as progress continues. There are several systems that need testing that I'll need help from y'all with such as version control and save file transfers.
So, that's the December update! As for when the first alpha will be released, I am working hard to get it out before the new year, but I can't promise anything. I will post ahead of time if I won't make it before 2024.
