The wooden beauty of Young Master Sheng(196-200)

Chapter 196: Rescue

Zhan Chen's men didn't allow Sheng Mingsi to get closer. Ning Yi and others stared at him, aiming their weapons.

In the urgent situation, Zhan Chen collapsed on Jiang Chenchen, blood flowing from his thigh. She immediately placed him back in the wheelchair, tore the hem of her long skirt, and pressed it against his thigh wound.

She addressed them, "Really! Ah Si, he's a top student from the Imperial Medical College. He can save Zhan Chen. Can you trust him?"

Sheng Mingsi was stopped by them, looking serious. "When it comes to saving lives, even if you're enemies, you can put that aside temporarily. He's losing a lot of blood. If we don't treat him immediately, the problems caused by excessive bleeding may make it too late to save him later."

He wasn't exaggerating.

Ning Yi knew Zhan Chen's medical condition; he had already been injured last night, and now the situation was truly critical!

For some reason, he felt that the man in front of him really had the ability to save lives.

In the brief moment of hesitation, Zhan Chen, pale-faced, opened his eyes and looked at the girl in front of him. Seeing her anxious expression, he realized that she could also be so concerned and worried about him.

It seemed worthwhile to take this bullet.

Even if it meant sacrificing his life.

"Chenchen, don't be sad. I was supposed to die."

"No, you won't. Trust Ah Si; he can really save you!"

"Him?" Zhan Chen looked in his direction, eyes unable to stay open. He quickly closed them. "I believe you."

He only believed in her.

Suddenly, Jiang Chenchen felt fear in her heart. This overlapped with the dream, but he was like this because he was saving her. With teary eyes, she turned to Sheng Mingsi, searching for him in the crowd. "Ah Si! Ah Si!"

She called his name, feeling uneasy.

Sheng Mingsi pushed through the crowd, reaching Jiang Chenchen. He lowered his head, patting her head, and spoke gently but with strength, "Don't be afraid; I'm here."

Jiang Chenchen saw that he seemed a bit strained, and tears fell from her eyes. "brother Ah Si, please, you must save him!"

Sheng Mingsi's emotions were slightly stung. Jiang Chenchen, who cried for someone else, was something he had never expected. He suppressed all his thoughts and said in a deep voice, "Rest assured, even if an ordinary person were here, I would still save him."

Saying this, he looked at Ning Yi and others sternly. "Prepare an undamaged operating room immediately. I need to give him emergency treatment. If the power can't be restored within five minutes, prepare a vehicle to transfer him to the nearest hospital."

His commanding tone made it impossible for them to refuse. In this urgent situation, people were inclined to trust him.

So, they immediately followed his instructions.

The operating room on the third floor was intact. Sheng Mingsi took off his suit jacket and handed it to Jiang Chenchen, instructing her to press down on the bleeding wound. Meanwhile, his gaze passed over her torn skirt on the injured leg. "Come on, go upstairs immediately. From now on, Chenchen, you are my assistant."

Jiang Chenchen nodded forcefully. She always believed in Sheng Mingsi. He would definitely be able to save Zhan Chen.

The doctors and nurses in this private hospital were also injured, and a nurse had fortunately survived by hiding in a room upstairs, having been called to help.

The injured doctors quickly joined the effort.

Due to Zhan Chen's excessive blood loss, urgent blood transfusion was necessary.

There weren't many people with a matching blood type here because Zhan Chen had a rare blood type. Although the blood bank had a regular supply of matching blood, the blood storage room had been damaged, and the blood was contaminated!

Ning Yi immediately thought that it was the work of the traitor among the accompanying doctors. This time, they had planned to kill Lord Zhan!

With no suitable blood source, Zhan Chen's situation was extremely critical.

With no suitable blood source, Zhan Chen's situation was extremely critical.

The only blood that matched at the scene was Jiang Chenchen's, and she immediately agreed to donate blood.

Sheng Mingsi only glanced at her face for a moment before nodding. "Okay, prepare for the blood transfusion."

At the critical moment of saving a life, all emotions could be set aside.

He was extremely serious. Although he bore the fate of a consortium, during any free time, he lurked in the research lab he had built in the basement. Moreover, he was skilled with a knife.

The electricity in the entire private hospital had been restored, and the surgery was underway.

Wearing surgical attire, Sheng Mingsi, with a surgical knife in hand, worked in the solemn and urgent atmosphere to remove the bullet from Zhan Chen's thigh muscles. Fortunately, it didn't hit the femoral artery; otherwise, the consequences would be unimaginable.

Zhan Chen's attending physician was slightly injured but could only assist and not perform the surgery. In the midst of serious cooperation, during the entire surgical process, he saw a very young and skilled doctor. His appearance reminded him of the female surgeon who had been expelled from here.

There was a similar boldness.

After the surgery, with the bullet removed from Zhan Chen's thigh, his body condition remained precarious due to the underlying illness. Sheng Mingsi inquired about Zhan Chen's condition from the attending physician.

However, the attending physician couldn't disclose Zhan Chen's medical condition, given his special status.

Seeing he wasn't talking, Sheng Mingsi didn't press further and just said, "I'm not needed here for now. If there's any need for communication, feel free to contact me."

He removed his gloves, took off the surgical gown, and walked out, handing a piece of paper with a series of numbers written on it.

The doctor hesitated when he saw this. From his perspective, he really wanted to get to know this exceptional person. After all, when faced with incurable diseases, doctors also wished to communicate with more elite individuals from the outside world to find better treatment solutions.

But there was a strict confidentiality policy on Lord Zhan's side, and he truly didn't dare to overstep.

"Sorry, I can't, but I can recommend someone to you. Regarding this matter, you might be able to discuss it with her."

The surgeon, who acted flamboyantly and didn't care about interpersonal relations, might not consider such issues.

Sheng Mingsi showed a slight reaction upon hearing the name, but the doctor across from him didn't notice.

He thanked the doctor and left.

Holding the note, he looked at the phone number on it. Wasn't this his cousin's number?

He crumpled it up and threw it into the trash. He had her contact information.

Zhan Chen wouldn't be in immediate danger, and the one he cared most about at the moment was Jiang Chenchen, who had donated too much blood.

She lay in a tidied-up hospital room, eyes closed as if asleep.

Her once rosy cheeks were now pale.

There were tear streaks at the corners of her eyes, shed out of sadness and fear for that person.

Sheng Mingsi had been tirelessly saving lives since he arrived here, breaking into Zhan Chen's castle, then infiltrating this place, and now performing a surgery. Despite being extremely exhausted, his eyes were filled with bloodshot veins, and the area around his eyes was dark.

He dared not fall asleep. He had to stay here and wait for her to wake up.

Chapter 197: The Best Person in the World

When Jiang Chenchen woke up, her body felt less weak.

She saw someone leaning by the bedside, silently watching her. As her eyes flickered open, the figure moved closer, and a cold hand reached out to touch her forehead.

The hand was chilly, and he released a breath, relieved. "Fortunately, no fever."

This was the first time she had a fever, caused by a weakened immune system after donating blood excessively.

Bending down, Sheng Mingsi looked at her. "Chenchen, are you okay?"

At such a close distance, with his cold breath falling on her, his eyes showed concern and apprehension.

If it weren't for Zhan Chen intercepting the bullet, it would have hit her.

From the past to the present, she always experienced desperate and fearful situations, and he felt he hadn't protected her well.

Jiang Chenchen reached out and touched his cheek, looking at him with clear eyes as if she could see through his thoughts. In a soft voice, she said, "As, I'm fine. But you, are you tired? Was the surgery successful?"

Sheng Mingsi looked at her, the gentle Chenchen within his entire field of vision comforting herself. Her soft hand touching his face was gentle enough to soothe his restless heart.

He held her hand, his voice hoarse. "Yes, it went smoothly."

"That's great."

Jiang Chenchen sat up a bit, moved her hand from his cheek to the back of his neck, and hugged him, burying her head in his neck.

In a muffled voice, she said, "If it weren't for you, I really don't know what to do."

This intimate and comforting gesture showed that she had truly been afraid.

Sheng Mingsi also hugged her, providing her with a broad support. A strange feeling kept rising in his heart, and the face with tears appeared in his mind again. His whole body exuded a lonely and cold aura, but he suppressed it. "You care a lot about him."

In her ear, he heard, "He took the bullet for me, just like in the dream. He bled a lot. If he died because of this, I would feel like I brought misfortune to those around me."

"It's not like that."

Sheng Mingsi gently held her shoulders, allowing her to rise from his embrace and looking into her eyes very seriously. "None of this is your fault. Never think that way. You are the most beautiful and wonderful person in this world, the one worth loving the most. You make me believe that there can be expectations and a future in life..."

He suddenly paused, his expression becoming more restrained, and said to her, "Never belittle yourself."

Jiang Chenchen stared at him blankly, her eyes slightly red. As expected, As was the best person in the world.

"I'll go see Zhan Chen, bid farewell to him, and then let's go home, okay?"

"Okay."

Sheng Mingsi felt relieved. Even if Zhan Chen was unbearable in his eyes, he was the person who saved Chenchen's life. There was nothing more to say to him.

"I'll wait for you. Let's go home together."

...

Zhan Chen was transferred to a hospital with better facilities, and he woke up only after it was dark.

There was a faint light in the ward, and outside the window was the soft moonlight.

It was impossible for a sniper to appear here again. The security was as strict as his castle.

Jiang Chenchen was in the ward, looking at the stars beside the window.

Hearing someone calling her from behind, she turned around and saw that he had finally awakened.

Jiang Chenchen quickly reached out to pull the curtain, but he stopped her with a voice, "Don't close the curtain."

"Hmm?"

Zhan Chen's silver-gray eyes were dim, and his voice was hoarse through the oxygen mask. "I also want to see the night."

Although night blindness had become more severe, it would be difficult to see things in the dark in the future, and nighttime racing would probably be impossible.

Jiang Chenchen let go of the curtain and thought for a moment. She took out the phone that Sheng Mingsi gave her from her pocket and took a photo of the night sky.

The moon was almost full, just a little bit short, and there were two or three stars.

The bright moonlight in the dark sky seemed like a bright existence and guidance. It felt like there was always an expectation to look up to in the night.

She showed the photo to Zhan Chen. "Look, even if you can't directly see the beauty of the night, you can find other ways to see it. Do you think it's beautiful?"

Zhan Chen, filled with tubes, looked pale and weak. When he saw the photo she handed him, his eyes, more beautiful than the moonlight, shimmered with a faint light.

For a moment, he was speechless. The more he felt this way, the more he realized that he would eventually have to leave, making him deeply melancholic and depressed.

Words spoken could never represent the feelings within.

Internally, there was a strong reluctance to let go, a desire to keep her by his side forever.

Yet, the night sky before him was truly beautiful.

How could he let her feel disappointed?

Moreover, her blood was flowing in his veins. It was the blood she had donated to save his life, warm and coursing through him, merging with his own.

He suddenly had a contented smile on his face, a unique beauty emerging on his originally pale face.

"Chenchen, if one day you suddenly feel like seeing me a little, just give me a call, and I'll come to you immediately."

Jiang Chenchen nodded earnestly. "Okay."

After putting away the phone, she asked about his condition. When the doctor came in, she mentioned the person locked behind the door in the basement warehouse of the private hospital.

Zhan Chen's eyes changed slightly as he looked at her. "You actually dealt with him?"

"It took a while. He was exhausted, and I managed to push him down. But then I locked him back up. Will anything happen to him?"

"No, he's someone who won't die even without eating or drinking. I found him in the jungle, a dangerous individual with strong attack capabilities. He doesn't differentiate between friend and foe and can harm his own people. So, I thought keeping him was useless and locked him up."

According to his previous style, people without use were unnecessary to keep around.

But this person couldn't die.

He was like a high-tech product, a machine-like humanoid. However, when he had the researchers come and examine him, they couldn't find any interfaces or switches.

In the end, they had no choice but to lock him up.

After being locked behind the warehouse door, he wouldn't attack or cause harm, as if he were in a dormant state.

After briefly explaining this to her, Zhan Chen felt that the seemingly unrelated thoughts were connecting in some way. "Chenchen, did the people who once researched you want to extract your body data and create such a humanoid robot?"

Although Jiang Chenchen didn't know why she would have value for such research, she wasn't in a state where she couldn't eat or drink and couldn't die. She was just a person with slightly better physical condition than an ordinary person.

"I don't know. Perhaps I need to meet that person again?"

But that person couldn't answer anything, as if there was no consciousness in his former self.

"Zhan Chen, can we try using hypnosis to make him speak?"

Chapter 198: Farewell

"It's a solution."

Zhan Chen thought seriously. The person in question was dangerous, and he didn't want Jiang Chenchen to meet him again. However, if the subsequent investigation revealed unfavorable results, and the missing director of the research institute had mysterious and dangerous motives behind the scenes, he didn't want her to get involved again. In his limited time, he would do his best to eliminate this potential threat.

"Leave that person to me for future research. Chenchen, stay here and talk to me tonight. Even if you don't speak, just stay here."

"But..."

"Just listen to me this once."

Zhan Chen's clear and soft gaze softened, revealing vulnerability.

Jiang Chenchen didn't insist further.

Zhan Chen couldn't leave the hospital bed at the moment, and dealing with the aftermath of the joint attack designed by Imong would be complicated. The prince of Country A, who played a role in the plot, needed to be accounted for. The situation was linked to the prince's attempt to use another faction to rise to power, requiring the elimination of the leader collaborating behind the scenes. This matter involved complex power struggles.

He had many things to handle, and he knew the most crucial one was Jiang Chenchen.

Previously forced into the dark forces, step by step, bloodied, he had reached his current position. Life, for him, had a limited time, and he hadn't felt the need to do anything or the meaning of living.

But now it seemed different.

He now had something to protect and something he wanted to do.

Even though she would leave him after dawn.

The night, which should have been long and hopeless, passed quickly. Sitting by the bedside, she shared some stories about friends she knew in the imperial capital, chatting about trivial matters. The nighttime hours flowed away like running water.

Sometimes, a prolonged parting could be more cruel.

Moreover, she had just lost so much blood for him; her body shouldn't endure this in the night.

"Go back. Don't look back, and don't say much. Otherwise, even a single glance from you might make me unable to resist changing my mind."

He had Ning Yi come in to escort her out.

Jiang Chenchen didn't look back, but she sent him the beautiful night photo.

Lying on the hospital bed, Zhan Chen, unwilling to see her leave, saw the forever lingering night, the bright moonlight, and two or three stars.

On his pale and handsome face, his gaze lost focus.

Warm blood flowed in his body, hers and his.

...

Jiang Chenchen left the hospital, and outside, there was a car waiting in the dark night, driven by Sheng Mingsi.

He stood by the car door, gently leaning against it. His eyes were as dark as the night, focused on her. When she walked over, he hugged her.

Her heartbeat was unusually fast.

He was afraid that she wouldn't want to come out from there and go home with him.

Jiang Chenchen embraced his waist, her face against his chest, the night enveloping them, and no one said a word.

Her chest was also beating rapidly.

It was a strange beating, and she could feel a slight pain.

But she didn't want to leave this embrace.

They didn't know how long they hugged until Wu Bi inside the car couldn't wait any longer and coughed heavily.

Jiang Chenchen then looked blankly toward the inside of the car, and through the layer of glass, she confirmed the person inside. "Xiao Wu?"

Wu Bi opened the car window, cold sweat on his forehead. He nodded at her and immediately said, "Just call me Brother Wu."

Sheng Mingsi glanced at the time on his wrist and gave Wu Bi a glance. "Change the flight ticket. Let's go back now."

"Yes!"

Sheng Mingsi led Jiang Chenchen into the car, and the two of them left the country and the city.

The originally bright moonlight was obscured by clouds, turning pitch black.

When they boarded the plane, light rain began to fall from the sky.

Meanwhile, the person on the hospital bed couldn't fall asleep. He looked outside the window, unable to see anything in the pitch-black darkness, but he could hear the gentle sound of rain.

It seemed like even the heavens knew about his heart.

...

Jiang Chenchen and Sheng Mingsi finally returned home.

However, after returning home, Sheng Mingsi fell ill due to exhaustion.

His mother was very worried and insisted that he come back to the old mansion.

Knowing that her son would definitely refuse, Sheng Qinhua went directly through Jiang Chenchen.

She had Gu Mingmei meet with her.

A quaint and elegant tea house.

In front of Sheng Qinhua, the tea emitted steam, a precious and high-quality tea with clear and translucent color. She took a sip, raised her eyes, and got straight to the point, "How much money to leave my son?"

Jiang Chenchen was a bit confused. "What?"

Gu Mingmei sat beside her, feeling a bit awkward. It was too direct. Using the strategy of taking money and leaving actually worked on her heartless brother.

She covered her face with her hand and whispered to Jiang Chenchen, "My mom asked you to take money and leave my brother. Don't agree."

"I won't agree."

"Name your price; we can talk about any amount."

"Unless it's Ah Si asking me to leave, I won't go."

Jiang Chenchen's directness and the directness of her gaze made Gu Mingmei somewhat admiring. Even she wouldn't dare to speak to her mother like this.

She wanted to ease the atmosphere and asked Sheng Qinhua not to be angry, but Sheng Qinhua just glanced at her, silencing her.

She lowered her head and silently drank her tea.

Sheng Qinhua frowned, her gaze sharp as she looked at Jiang Chenchen. "What is your purpose? Don't think I don't know! Based on your past actions, your current background and identity, you have no qualifications to stay by Mingsi's side, let alone entering the Sheng family's gates."

She was assertive, continuing mercilessly:

"If you have even a bit of self-respect, you should know that taking the money and leaving is a way out. Otherwise, when there's nothing left, that will be the wrong choice. Even if you seem dull, you should understand what I mean."

Jiang Chenchen looked at her without speaking. Qualifications? Entering the Sheng family's gates?

What?

Gu Mingmei had seen Jiang Chenchen's way of thinking. Continuing the conversation like this would only make Sheng Qinhua more annoyed, so she quickly said, "Mom, don't say it like that. Chenchen just loves Ah Si too much."

"Too much?"

Chapter 199: Ah Si's Wife

Sheng Qinhua seemed to find something extremely amusing.

In her eyes, everything about love was a joke. What existed were calculations, conspiracies, and betrayals.

She glanced briefly at Gu Mingmei, who immediately averted her eyes elsewhere.

Gu Mingmei nearly got herself involved. After all, she had been divorced and didn't have any successful cases of love or non-love to discuss.

Moreover, her mother, having experienced a failed marriage and betrayal, would never believe in love.

If Jiang Chenchen wanted to convince Sheng Qinhua, to stay by Ah Si's side and overcome her mother's objections, it wouldn't be an easy task.

There was nothing she could do to help, and she felt increasingly uncomfortable.

Sheng Qinhua's words became even more cutting as she said to Jiang Chenchen, "Where is your love? Is it in making him run overseas through gunfire and come back injured for you? Or is it in your mysterious past, bringing potential unknown dangers to him?"

"If you truly love him, you should know that you shouldn't burden him like this. His future extends far beyond the world you see now. He should be matched with a daughter from a prestigious family, not someone like you. Do I make myself clear?"

Jiang Chenchen didn't touch the tea on the table. The faint steam rose, and she looked at the woman in front of her. This woman, who appeared strong and domineering, was Ah Si's mother.

The mother whom Sheng Mingsi had described as despairing due to his father's betrayal. Now, she was assertive.

These direct words penetrated her heart, rendering her silent for a while.

Just when Gu Mingmei thought Jiang Chenchen might be feeling inferior and upset, as no one could remain calm under such oppressive language, Jiang Chenchen spoke, "I didn't intend to harm anyone. Those are not the results I wanted. No matter what you say, I won't leave him, unless he doesn't want to see me or doesn't want me by his side. Otherwise, no one can drive me away from him."

If Sheng Mingsi hadn't spoken those words to her before, she might have considered herself an ominous person, bringing danger to those around her. Facing Sheng Qinhua's oppression might have shaken her.

But now it was different; her inner conviction was strong.

Sheng Qinhua coldly looked at her, as if scrutinizing. "I appreciate your courage. Whatever your purpose is, at least you seem determined. If what you say is true, then you need to show me something. I need to see if you truly love him."

Jiang Chenchen didn't quite understand. "What do you mean?"

"Tonight, let Mingsi come back to the old mansion. I will contact you in three days and let you know what's going on."

Sheng Qinhua stood up; the conversation for today had reached its conclusion. Before leaving, she said to Jiang Chenchen, "By the way, I'm curious. What is the relationship between you and Zhan Chen?"

Jiang Chenchen thought for a moment. "Brother."

Sheng Qinhua's eyes flashed with a cold light as she sneered and left without lingering.

After Sheng Qinhua's figure disappeared, Gu Mingmei relaxed a bit and took a sip of tea, looking at Jiang Chenchen. "Do you have a brother?"

Actually, she had some understanding of Jiang Chenchen, knowing that she was an orphan who had been in a mental hospital and had a somewhat troubled childhood.

It seemed like the brother had a complicated relationship, perhaps related to Ah Si's sudden trip to A country.

Her mother might have some resentment due to this, hence the hostility.

"I'll tell you, Chenchen, if you really like my brother, hold on to him and don't let go. Don't look at other men. Now, my mother can't do much to you. After all, who my brother likes is not something she can decide. So, you don't have to worry too much."

Jiang Chenchen nodded, "Yes, thank you, Sister Mingmei."

Seeing Jiang Chenchen's calm demeanor, Gu Mingmei was truly impressed. Despite her young age, she displayed remarkable composure.

"I think it's still early. How about I take you to buy some clothes?" Gu Mingmei suggested.

Jiang Chenchen replied, "No need, I have plenty of clothes."

Gu Mingmei, noticing Jiang Chenchen's somewhat clueless expression, put down her mirror and leaned over to whisper, "Has Ah Si ever made a move?"

"Huh?" Jiang Chenchen looked puzzled.

Seeing her innocent look, Gu Mingmei sighed and asked in a hushed tone, "Have you ever confessed your feelings to each other, like saying 'I love you' or something?"

After a moment of thought, Jiang Chenchen shook her head.

Gu Mingmei's expression became a bit exaggerated. It seemed her ruthless and indifferent brother was somewhat reserved. Even after getting closer, he remained subtle in expressing his feelings.

Adjusting her expression to a bright and bold demeanor, Gu Mingmei, with her mature and confident makeup, draped her arm around Jiang Chenchen's shoulder. "I'm sorry for bothering you. Let's go buy some different clothes that Ah Si will like."

"What?" Jiang Chenchen was still confused.

Without further explanation, Gu Mingmei took Jiang Chenchen's hand and led her out. She drove her to a shopping mall, where she helped pick out several dresses for Jiang Chenchen. Without waiting for any objections, she had them wrapped and then led her to another store.

This time, it was a lingerie brand with various styles.

Gu Mingmei, picking carefully, asked, "How about this one? Do you like it?"

Standing on the side, Jiang Chenchen looked left and right. "How do you wear this?"

Adjusting her expression, she explained a few things to Jiang Chenchen.

Looking somewhat dazed, Jiang Chenchen asked, "Do we really need to do that?"

Gu Mingmei, with an air of someone experienced, said, "Listen to me; it works."

She bought a lot of items at once and then went to the underground supermarket, considerately purchasing other necessities for her. After that, she drove her back home.

Upon arrival, Gu Mingmei handed all the purchased items to Jiang Chenchen. "I won't come in. Remember what I said today, and don't forget it."

Jiang Chenchen hesitated, "You spent money on all of these, and I don't have much money right now. But I will definitely pay you back in the future."

"Don't be so polite. After all, I'm looking forward to you becoming my sister-in-law."

"Sister-in-law?"

"Yes, Ah Si's wife – you understand, right?"

Chapter 200: Fitting

Gu Mingmei didn't joke with her anymore. "If you really feel uneasy about it, consider it as owing me a favor. In the future, if I have any programs or roles that need you, you can cameo or perform."

After all, she thought Jiang Chenchen had the innate look of a star. She was exceptionally beautiful and deserved to stand in the spotlight, captivating the audience.

Jiang Chenchen nodded at her words. "Alright, no need for any payment."

"Then it's settled. Go on, go inside."

Gu Mingmei drove away, feeling a bit regretful that her artist Lu Su had decided to retire. It was a pity to lose such a dazzling star she had cultivated. Depression wasn't easy to treat, and she wondered what had happened to cause this change.

However, in the entertainment industry, if one couldn't handle the pressure, it was indeed challenging to survive. So, she wasn't really planning to let Jiang Chenchen enter the industry to navigate its challenges.

Nevertheless, such beauty shouldn't go to waste. Occasionally, it was fine to amaze the public.

...

Jiang Chenchen carried the bags into the house. The home was quiet, and Sheng Mingsi was resting in his room upstairs. She quietly ascended, encountering someone on the way down.

Turning the corner of the stairs, she saw Sheng Mingsi. He descended with an ailing expression, and upon spotting her, his dark eyes constricted. As his tall figure approached, he stopped a couple of steps below her, looking down at her. "Did you go out?"

Jiang Chenchen looked up at him and replied, "Yes, I went out to buy some things."

She raised the bags in her hands, filled to the brim.

Seeing this, Sheng Mingsi's expression relaxed slightly. "Did you go alone?"

He took the bags from her hands and joined her in heading upstairs.

Jiang Chenchen then explained that she went shopping with Gu Mingmei but skipped the part about meeting his mother.

Sheng Mingsi asked, "Did she cause you trouble? Mingmei always talks about you entering the entertainment industry. Just ignore her nonsense."

"I might act in a small role or something. Would you be upset?" she asked.

"If someone forced you to do it, I would be unhappy. But if it's your own choice, I will respect your decision."

Jiang Chenchen nodded. How could she leave such a good Asa? She wouldn't.

"By the way, your sister said to return to the old house tonight. Both she and your mother heard that you were unwell and are a bit worried."

"So, the premise of our shopping was for you to tell me to go back? Did my mother also come?" Jiang Chenchen looked dazed. Could he even guess this?

Seeing her expression confirming his speculation, Sheng Mingsi sighed. During the days he stayed in the old house due to his mother's illness, he had already guessed his mother's intentions. She wanted to delay him, keeping him in the dark about Jiang Chenchen, who was already taken to A Country.

Fortunately, he received a photo from someone in advance, informing him and allowing him to leave early to find Jiang Chenchen. His mother tried to stop him, but she couldn't.

On the way back from A Country, he had guessed that his mother would secretly make things difficult for Jiang Chenchen. He didn't expect it to happen so soon.

"Chenchen, listen to me. No matter what, you don't have to pay attention to others, even if that person is my mother. It doesn't represent my thoughts. You are the person I want to protect the most in my life. I hope you understand."

His words were implicit, but Jiang Chenchen understood the literal meaning.

She said to him, "Ah Si, I know. I have rejected your mother, and I will never leave your side. But if you want to go back to the old house to recuperate, making your mother feel at ease, I will also feel at ease. If you want to come back earlier, just be obedient there, get well soon, and then come back, alright?"

Her tone seemed to be coaxing a child

"Yes, I'll listen to you, my Lady Chenchen."

His tall figure bent down, and he lowered his head to rub her head, showing a doting expression.

Suddenly, Jiang Chenchen remembered what Gu Mingmei had said and tentatively asked, "I bought some clothes. Do you want to see me try them on?"

Sheng Mingsi looked at the bags in his hands but didn't open them. He just nodded, saying, "Sure."

Handing all the bags under his arm to her, he added, "Go try them on. I'm going back to my room. Let me know when you feel better."

He went back to his room, brewed a cup of cold medicine, and sighed. Having a fever during the summer cold made him feel weak all over, and he had slept the whole day, yet his head still felt heavy.

Compared to Jiang Chenchen, who was lively and energetic, he truly felt the difference in their constitutions.

He had noticed her unusual physique, and being a medical student himself, he paid attention to such things. However, there wasn't enough information to confirm anything. Perhaps it was related to her childhood confinement in the laboratory.

He was still investigating the disappearance of the director of that research institute, but finding someone who disappeared for so many years without a reason wasn't simple.

As for Jiang Chenchen's other relatives, there was no clue at all. Information from her mother's side was nearly non-existent.

A person should leave traces in this world as long as they exist. It was strange for there to be absolutely no information, but Jiang Chenchen had never mentioned it, and he didn't feel comfortable asking.

However, he remembered a sentence she said last New Year. She mentioned that her mother had told her to go to where she should be.

If her mother said that, it meant she had other relatives. So, why couldn't he find any information about them? It was a puzzling situation.

He sat on the sofa, sinking into a tired and powerless state. Because of the lingering fever, his cheeks and forehead felt warm. After drinking the cold medicine, he closed his eyes, trying to relax.

When he went back to the old house in the evening, he would have a good talk with Madam Sheng.

Even if it was his mother, he wouldn't allow her to harm Chenchen.

He almost fell asleep, and when he woke up, he hadn't heard Jiang Chenchen calling him. Looking at the time, more than ten minutes had passed. Trying on clothes shouldn't take this long, right?

He felt a bit worried, so he reluctantly got up, walked out of his room, and headed towards Jiang Chenchen's room. The door was slightly ajar.

He knocked on it. "Chenchen?"

"Ah Si... Don't come in yet."

Jiang Chenchen's hesitant and unsure voice came from inside the room.

Hearing this, Sheng Mingsi hesitated for a moment. Leaning against the wall in a lazy and clear posture, he asked her, "What's wrong? Did something happen? Can't reach the zipper on the back of the dress, or is it something else?"

"No, it's not that. It's just that I can't really fit into these clothes."

Jiang Chenchen's words puzzled Sheng Mingsi. What kind of clothes couldn't she fit into?

Did Mingmei buy her some revealing clothes?
