Chapter 2261: Probably Just Idle

Chapter 2261: Probably Just Idle

After the dispute with Lai's mother, she decided to leave and returned to town.

With Lai's mother gone, Li Shi stayed on her own. Since Yu Fenglin was worried about his older sister, he offered to take care of Lanhua himself. His blacksmith shop was located at home, so if Lanhua needed anything or didn't feel well, she could call for him from the backyard. He even suggested hiring a maid to cook and do laundry for Lanhua.

True to his word, he hired an experienced and hardworking maid to help with the household chores.

Li Shi considered this arrangement and moved to Cuihua's house. However, just like when she stayed at Lanhua's place, she still frequently visited Lanhua.

After a few visits, Li Shi started to complain that the hired maid wasn't attentive enough to Lanhua. She said the maid didn't know to air out the bedding in Lanhua's room, criticized the quality of the food she cooked, complained about the cleanliness of the laundry, and accused her of spending her wages on her favorite vegetables.

While the maid was patient and accepting of feedback, Li Shi's demands became increasingly unreasonable. She even worried that Yu Fenglin, being a young man, would be worn out by the constant interruptions. Li Shi insisted that Yu Fenglin should sleep separately from Lanhua at night and made the maid set up a pallet in Lanhua's room. She expected the maid to assist Lanhua when she needed to use the bathroom during her frequent nighttime awakenings.

Even the most patient person would find it hard to cope, and the maid eventually quit.

Now Li Shi had to worry about both sides. In the end, she came up with the idea of having her two daughters stay together, thinking that this way, she could take care of both of them.

However, both daughters had their own husbands at home, so it wasn't suitable for them to stay at either's house. Li Shi decided to take them back to Shishi Village.

Initially, this seemed like a solution that would work for everyone, but unexpectedly, Lanhua, who had shown no symptoms before, began experiencing severe morning sickness and loss of appetite, causing her to rapidly lose weight, just like Cuihua.

Li Shi was frantic and approached Lu Dasong for help. Lu Dasong scolded Li Shi and decided to bring both Cuihua and Lanhua back to the county.

Everything went back to square one. Li Shi stayed at Cuihua's house but continued running to Lanhua's place every day.

Both Cuihua and Lanhua told her to stop fussing. They assured her that they could take care of themselves and, at worst, they had their husbands at home to help. They didn't need her constant interference.

Li Shi ignored their pleas; she couldn't help but worry about everyone, and the result was that she ended up exhausting herself.

Talking to her daughter-in-law, Lu Dasong said, "I don't understand what she's thinking. Even when Da Niu's wife was pregnant, she kept fussing around and even quarreled with in-laws. Now, both daughters are pregnant, and she's behaving the same way. It's only because Cuihua has severe morning sickness and low energy. Otherwise, with her temperament, she would have sent her mother back."

Listening to this, Shu Yu thought for a moment and said, "Maybe she's just idle."

Although she had never given birth to children herself, she understood the importance of a pregnant woman's emotional well-being. It was essential to take extra care during pregnancy, but Li Shi was clearly taking it to an extreme.

She was constantly running back and forth between her daughters, and both Cuihua and Lanhua were filial daughters. With their mother's constant fussing, how could they not feel stressed? It was challenging to advise Li Shi against this behavior without offending her. Otherwise, she would be accused of not knowing what's good for her, further adding to her stress.
