With the arrangements in place, Meng Yun Zheng spoke to Aunt Hong, "Today, I'd like to paint two portraits, one for Le Le's parents. Firstly, it serves as a keepsake for the child, and secondly, having a portrait makes it easier to find Le Le's mother."
Aunt Hong nodded repeatedly, "Yes, yes, we can do that."
She glanced around and suggested, "Let's do it in the main hall. My room is dim, and I'm afraid it won't be clear enough."
Houses like the Hong family's typically had small rooms with small windows. It was fine for daily activities, but it wasn't suitable for reading or painting, as it strained the eyes.
Moreover, Aunt Hong's main room had been given to her son and daughter-in-law a long time ago, and her current room had poor lighting and was inconvenient.
Meng Yunzheng had no objections, so the group left the room. Aunt Hong then called for Yu shi.
"Quickly, help me move this table from the main hall and place it closer to the door so he can paint."
Yu shi had been eavesdropping outside the room. If it weren't for Xia Yan and Ying Xi guarding the room, she might have resorted to peeking inside.
Now, hearing that painting would take place in the main hall, she couldn't resist the opportunity to watch.
After Yu shi arrived, Xia Yan and Ying Xi moved the table to the doorway.
Yu shi quickly said, "Let me fetch a cloth to clean the table."
The table wasn't actually dirty, but Yushi, despite her character flaws, was diligent in her work.
After wiping it down briefly, Xia Yan placed the brushes, ink, paper, and inkstone they had brought from the carriage onto the table.
Yu shi asked attentively, "What is the top scholar going to paint?"
"We're painting Le Le's parents," Aunt Hong replied. "You should think back and describe what Da Zhuang and his wife looked like. This way, we can make the portraits more accurate."
Yu shi hesitated, not understanding why they would want to paint Song Le's parents.
However, she eventually agreed and provided a description of the couple's appearance. Meng Yunzheng was a skilled painter, but Aunt Hong and Yushi's descriptions weren't very clear.
After wasting several sheets of paper, the final portrait of the couple was completed. Hong Auntie and Yushi widened their eyes and marveled, "It's so lifelike! Da Zhuang indeed looked just like this."
Tears welled up in Aunt Hong's eyes. It had been five years since Da Zhuang passed away, and seeing his portrait made it feel as if he were still alive.
Song Le blinked. So this was his father.
With the previous experience, creating a portrait of Wei Shi was much easier. After both portraits were finished and placed side by side, Shu Yu couldn't help but exclaim, "Xiao Le looks so much like them."
"It's true. We couldn't see the resemblance when he was younger, but as he's grown up, his nose and eyes have developed just like his parents'. Our Little Le Le will definitely be a handsome young man in the future."
Song Le's face turned red as he looked at Wei Shi's portrait. "Aunt, I don't rely on looks; I'll rely on my abilities in the future."
Looks were only skin-deep. To earn respect like his uncle, he needed real talent and knowledge.
