Village Chief Ruan, feeling the pressure, stepped forward from the crowd and furrowed his brow, saying with a stiff smile, "County Princess, our Ruan Village is quite simple, and the countryside may not meet your expectations."
"That's not a problem. I've experienced hardships before, and I'm willing to endure them for the sake of my grandmother."
Village Chief Ruan hesitated, then continued, "Technically, as the village chief of Ruan Village, it's my duty to host you, County Princess. However, our family is large, and there are many children. We're worried about inconveniencing you due to the noise. If you insist on staying in the village tonight, how about... staying at Ruan Dalai's house?"
As he spoke, Village Chief Ruan signaled someone nearby to go and find Ruan Dalai's parents. Then he added, "Ruan Dalai is in charge of oil pressing at County Princess's Lu family workshop, so he's familiar with you. Their house was recently renovated, and their family is relatively simple. I believe County Princess would be more comfortable staying there. What do you think?"
Village Chief Ruan didn't want County Princess to stay at his own home. This County Princess was rather peculiar, and who knew what she might do.
Shu Yu contemplated, appearing to be deep in thought.
Just then, a couple in their middle age entered the room. They hurriedly bowed to Shu Yu and said, "County Princess, we are Ruan Dalai's parents. We heard that you're planning to stay at Ruan Village tonight. Our home is relatively spacious. If you host Shu Yu.
If not for County Princess, their family wouldn't be living such a good life now.
Today, almost all the villagers of Ruan Village had gathered in the Ruan family's yard, and Ruan Dalai's parents had been waiting outside. As soon as Village Chief Ruan sent someone to call them, they rushed in.
Shu Yu looked at the slightly anxious couple and nodded, "Very well, then I'll depends on you."
The couple immediately beamed with joy and stepped aside, saying, "County Princess, please come this way. We'll take you there."
Seeing that both parties had come to an agreement, Village Chief Ruan heaved a sigh of relief. He then instructed Ruan Dalai's parents, "Chengchun, it's an honor for County Princess to stay at your house. You must treat her well, don't neglect anything. If she lacks anything, just come to my house and let me know. I'll do my best to accommodate her."
Ruan Chengchun and his wife, however, wore cold expressions. They didn't want to engage with Village Chief Ruan too much and simply nodded in response.
Village Chief Ruan let out a deep breath and, with a feigned air of authority, continued, "County Princess, if you decide to stay in the village tonight, it's our honor. You can rest assured that you're our guest of honor. If you need anything, please don't hesitate to let us know."
As Shu Yu's figure grew more distant, the Ruan brothers finally breathed a sigh of relief. As long as she left, the pressure on them would be greatly reduced.
However, just as Shu Yu reached the door, she stopped.
Seeing this, the Ruan brothers tensed up again. They heard her say, "What time will we go up the mountain tomorrow? I want to be there to accompany my grandmother on her final journey, as promised."
The Ruan brothers wanted to say she didn't need to come at all.
But faced with Shu Yu's sincere gaze, Village Chief Ruan took a deep breath and said, "It will be at Mao Shi."
"Mao Shi." That's 6 AM. "That's quite early."
Village Chief Ruan quickly nodded, "Yes, it's too early, and it might disturb your rest. How about..."
"How about I sleep early tonight, and don't worry, I'll definitely be there on time tomorrow."
Village Chief Ruan and the Ruan brothers wanted to say that she didn't need to come at all.
But seeing Shu Yu's determined look, Ruan Village Chief took another deep breath and said, "Alright, Mao Shi it is. You're our guest of honor, County Princess, and we look forward to your presence tomorrow."
