Chapter 2005: The Cheng Siblings Haven't Gone Far

So the group quickly left the inn and boarded the carriage, heading to the harbor.

In the early morning, the harbor was bustling with activity, filled with people coming and going, and various shouts and calls echoed around.

Shu Yu and her group followed the Xu family manager to their cargo ship, where they saw samples of brushes of different sizes.

Shu Yu wasn't very knowledgeable about writing materials like brushes, ink, paper, and inkstones. If Ah Yun were here, he could easily tell which ones were suitable for beginners.

Nevertheless, she took her time examining each one. The Xu family manager, thinking she was knowledgeable, introduced the items sincerely, considering potential future cooperation with the Lu family after their recent deal on instant noodles.

In the end, Shu Yu chose over two hundred brushes suitable for beginners, over a hundred medium-quality brushes, and around thirty high-quality brushes. She also selected a few premium wolf-hair brushes.

In addition to brushes, she picked other study materials like paper, inksticks, inkstones from Yantai, and pen holders that would be useful for learning.

Seeing Shu Yu's selections, the Xu family manager was both delighted and somewhat sad. Despite buying a substantial quantity, she was a fierce negotiator, far more experienced than her apparent age.

Shu Yu paid for the items and had the Xu family manager arrange for them to be packed and loaded onto the carriage.

The carriage was already filled with various items, and with these new purchases, two large boxes were added on top.

But there was no choice. These were wholesale prices, and the prices in the store would be at least double.

"Miss, look at that," Shu Yu was gazing contentedly at the two large boxes being loaded onto the carriage when suddenly, her companion, Ying Xi, called out to her softly, pointing to some people disembarking from a nearby ship.

Squinting her eyes, Shu Yu looked in that direction and then froze. "The Cheng siblings?"

"Miss, didn't Chief Cheng say that the Cheng siblings had already set off for the southwest a long time ago? Why have they been in Huajiang Prefecture for over a month?"

Shu Yu found it strange too. The Cheng siblings had left much earlier than them, and by this time, they should have been close to the southwest, if not already there.

Ying Xi whispered, "Miss, shall I go closer and take a look?"

Shu Yu didn't object. "Be careful not to get noticed."

"Understood."

Ying Xi quickly caught up with the Cheng siblings, quietly trailing behind them.

Not long after, she returned. "Miss, they're having a meal in a store not far from the harbor. I sat at the table next to them and overheard them saying that the elder Cheng sister is supposedly sick, which caused them a long delay."

Pausing, she added, "But it didn't look like she was sick. It seems that Cheng Jiatong doesn't want to go to the southwest, so she's intentionally dragging her feet. I heard her complaining to Cheng Wenbao, saying that she didn't like this or that, that she couldn't adapt to the climate, and so on. I think they won't reach the southwest for another two or three months on this trip."

Shu Yu's lips twitched. "When Cheng Wenbao can't stand it anymore, they'll surely pick up the pace. But it doesn't concern us. We won't have any future interactions with them. Now that everything is ready, let's depart."

"Miss, are we going to Tianning County now?"

"Yes." Shu Yu nodded and took the lead in boarding the carriage.

Ying Xi signaled to Ying Dong, but to her surprise, he was staring blankly at something not far away.

Shu Yu pushed aside the curtain and asked, "What's wrong?"

Ying Dong suddenly snapped out of it. "Nothing, it just looked like I saw someone I know."
