TLDPCRM 37: The Princess is missing

Chapter 37: The Princess is missing

Gu Yunru glared at Rong Zhen resentfully while the Emperor wasn't looking. Rong Zhen didn't notice and walked ahead, taking her out of Yongxin Palace.

Several maids guarded the princess's bedroom. The candles inside were still lit, and everything was neatly arranged and hadn't been searched.

"You just like to show off, don't you?"

When Gu Yunru heard this sentence come from Rong Zhen's mouth, she felt goosebumps all over her body.

"I was just trying to help. Besides, with everyone in the palace on edge, don't we need to find the assassin's trail as soon as possible?"

"Do you know that this is not something you can mess around with?"

Rong Zhen's expression was extremely serious, but he also had a look of reluctance to scold Gu Yunru, which she saw as a sign of disdain.

"I'm not messing around. I really want to help. Besides, the princess's disappearance is not a good thing for me either."

Gu Yunru spoke and clapped her hands, looking at the furnishings in the room. The princess's bedroom wasn't very large, but it was comfortable and refreshing to live in, with a faint scent of orchids in the air.

"Which one of you served the princess up close?"

Gu Yunru looked at the row of palace maids and raised her voice.

"Miss, I'm called Hongxin, and I was serving the princess. But after the princess finished bathing, she disappeared..."

"What were you doing when the princess was bathing?"

Gu Yunru looked up and down at the maid named Hongxin, who was wearing a pale pink palace dress and had her hair tied up in a fairy bun. She looked petite and had pretty features.

"I was waiting outside the door, but I didn't hear anything inside. I became suspicious and went in, but I didn't expect the princess to be gone along with her clothes..." Hongxin said.

"The princess's clothes? Are you saying the princess wasn't wearing anything?" Rong Zhen listened on the side and coughed lightly, covering her mouth with her hand. It was better not to ask such things, as it could damage the princess's reputation if it was spread around.

"Never mind. Let me ask something else. What was the princess doing before she took a bath and changed her clothes?" Gu Yunru asked, and Hongxin carefully thought for a moment before answering.

"The princess has been unhappy for several days, and she's been locking herself in her room every day. She hasn't changed much since returning from the city."

The princess had been taken away before she could see the Empress Dowager upon returning to the palace. Gu Yunru could only obtain this much information for now, and judging from Hongxin's expression, she didn't seem to be hiding anything.

Rong Zhen sat on the side, drinking tea and appearing quite relaxed.

Gu Yunru felt thirsty and was about to go up and drink some tea to moisten her throat. However, she found that the teapot was still hot, indicating that someone had used it recently.

"What's wrong?" Rong Zhen suddenly paused when she saw Gu Yunru's expression, as if she had discovered something.

"A hot teapot was found, indicating that the princess had been drinking tea here not long ago. After the princess went missing, what did you do, Hongxin?"

Gu Yunru shifted her gaze to Hongyu's face, but the maid frowned and stuttered, unable to say anything. Gu Yunru noticed the panic on her face and knew that she must be hiding something.

"If you don't speak up, I'll hand you over to the emperor," threatened Rong Zhen, effectively getting the information they needed in one sentence. It was much more effective than Gu Yunru's hundred questions.

Hongxin couldn't keep it hidden any longer and fell to her knees, saying, "Actually, I fainted early on, and someone lit a sleep-inducing incense in the room. When I woke up, the princess was gone."

"Why didn't you say so earlier?"

"I was afraid that you would blame me, my lord."

"What a daring girl." Rong Zhen uttered these words slowly, making Hongxin tremble with fear.

"Please spare me, my lord. I didn't mean to deceive you."

"Before the princess disappeared, she must have met someone. Do you know who it was?" Gu Yunru asked, walking over to help Hongxin up and patting her arm gently.

The hot teapot was replaced by a servant, and Hongxin must have fainted after the princess left. She knew something, but didn't want to say it.

Hongxin bit her lip tightly, her eyes looking away nervously.

"Given the circumstances, don't you want to confess anything?" Gu Yunru frowned, and Rong Zhen lifted his teacup with one hand, closing it lightly and crushing the cup, which frightened Hongxin to the core.

"My lord, spare me, I...I only saw a little bit at the door. A man in black broke into the princess's room and said a few words to her before I lost consciousness. I really don't know anything..."

Hongxin was so scared that tears streamed down her face, and this time it seemed like she was truly revealing her emotions. Gu Yunru patted her shoulder and helped her up again. "Don't be afraid, we're just asking a few questions. Why are you so frightened?"

"I thought it better to mind my own business. Besides, the princess is about to marry someone from beyond the boarder. If I saw another man in her room, it would damage her reputation, and the emperor wouldn't forgive me."

Hongxin had thought it through carefully.

"You don't have to blame yourself. You were also thinking of your mistress. What did the man look like? Did you get a good look at him?" Gu Yunru asked.

Hongxin thought hard and gritted her teeth, but her mind was a mess, and the shock had made her forget everything.

"I really didn't see him clearly. All I saw was his broad back, which was similar to my lord's figure."

Gu Yunru shifted his gaze to Rong Zhen's face. Did this guy really have a similar back to the man who broke into the princess's chamber?

"don't look at me, I've been near the Concubine Yings palace the whole time," said Rong Zhen, knowing the implication in Gu Yunru's eyes and quickly distancing himself.

"Hongxin, think carefully, did you really not see what the man looked like?" asked Gu Yunru, furrowing his brows.

Hongxin frowned, tears welling up in her eyes as she shook her head. "I really can't remember anything."

"Forget it, if you can't remember, there's no need to press her," said Gu Yunru, dismissing Hongxin and sitting down in front of Rong Zhen.

"What do you think of this matter?" asked Gu Yunru, raising his eyebrows. Rong Zhen lowered his eyes, his long and thick eyelashes trembling slightly. His face was as cold and stern as if it were carved by an axe.

"Everyone in the palace knows that Princess Chang does not want to marry to the frontier," said Rong Zhen. "It seems you also know some insider information. How about providing some clues?"

"Why do you care so much?" said Rong Zhen, watching Gu Yunru's curious expression. After leaving the Concubine Ying palace, he felt as if he had been injected with chicken blood, as if all his energy had been used up.

Note:

Im a really confuse as Gu Yunru known as a expert on psychological reading why would she misread when It comes to Rong Zhen? Lols
