10k Film Club: Alien (1979) ft Aaron Thorpe

Aaron Thorpe, co-host of The Trilbillies podcast comes back on the show to talk about Ridley Scott’s ALIEN (1979).

Hussein and Aaron talk about the impact the film had on sci fi horror and monster movies, the darkness and wetness that sets it apart from the more recent sequels, and why the film is actually about bureaucracies and how nobody wants to work in space. Plus, Aaron theorises how the Xenomorph and the cat may have been in cahoots.

the best parts are definitely when it does its own thing, with some extremely cool scenes. I thought the good bits were much better than The Force Awakens, but that just makes it even more frustrating that it gets so weighed down by all the tie-ins and callbacks

love the 10k Film Club, great to hear Aaron on again! I grew up with the Dark Horse Aliens comics from the 90s, which I feel like the lorehead in Hussein would really enjoy

Thank you HK for fueling my current Alien hyperfixation. I can listen to this while dying repeatedly in Alien: Isolation! Edit: Just a note about Romulus. It's a great watch, but it's absolutely Alien: The Force Awakens. It's basically a pastiche of Alien and Aliens...but in fairness, there are a couple of more original sequences that really do stand out, and those are where the movie shines imo.
