Finger Puppet UPDATE

Hey everyone!

I sincerely hope y'all don't mind all the additional posts and updates lately <3 (don't worry, updates like these don't take the place from a NEW model) As promised, the finger puppet with the new hinge attachments that work the same as the shoulder puppet is here! This guy is SO much more sturdy than the other current finger puppet attachments and easy to assemble as well!

As you can see he has the new neck joints as the shoulder dragon as well, which means this guy can scale down MUCH smaller than before!

Another change I made to this version as well is to the neck attachment! As you can see in the pics, the head/neck is only enclosed on the last head joint and open on the bottom of the neck, with hooks to connect an elastic on to hold onto your finger. This allows for WAY better size variability between puppets without having to scale specifically for each person! This green guy here (printed at 100% scale) fits and functions well on both my finger AND my husband's finger, who is 7 inches and 100lbs larger than I am, which I think is pretty impressive! I'm hoping this helps y'all with less finicky fitting for yourself and customers!

Of course the colored Bambu 3MF is added for this guy as well!

No problem!! Sounds great! I hope you like him 🥰

Kirsten McKenzie

Thank you for your reply :) I found it and have purchased the files. I’m so excited to print this guy!!!

Laine Gregory

Kirsten McKenzie

Sorry just read the link that says to check for the my mini factory archive link in my emails. Off I go to search for that amongst my one billion spam emails I receive on a daily basis 😂

Laine Gregory

Sorry if this is a silly question but I’m kind of new and would love to purchase this model. How/where do I buy/download it if I subscribed after this model was released? Thank you 🙏

Laine Gregory

Any advise on how to get those hinges in? I have big fat fingers and broke the loop on the wing. :( I'm afraid of trying the head.

Jeremi Sliger

it took us cutting between the 2 joints for a bit, and then we were able to get ours to release. We thought we were going to end up breaking it.

Jeremi Sliger

Awww yay! I'm so glad you like it!! And that's a great idea!

Kirsten McKenzie

I love this thing my favorite to print! Can we get another one that's more like spooky/mean looking? Perfect for Halloween

Deanne Murray

The pins are included in the ZIP and are called "Finger puppet hinge" and in your slicer you can right click on the wing and then select "mirror" and "mirror along X axis" to get the opposite wing side :)

Kirsten McKenzie

I'm a little confused, where are the pins to print to put it together and what is the difference between the left wing and the left wing ball joint control holes? Is the left wing the only one that you attach to your finger besides the head?

Joni Goodman

Haha no problem! <3

Kirsten McKenzie

How the heck did I miss that one?.... there it is! Thank you!!

Wade Seibert

The shoulder dragon released earlier this month! 🥰

Kirsten McKenzie

How about an shoulder mounted puppet? Can have an hand control with an wire up to the puppet. Little more challenging...

Wade Seibert

Wow, 60%?! I feel like the neck, tail, and wing pins would be tiny!! I might give 80% a try in that case, and I’ll report back my results!

Kristi Pearce

It was a silk filament I think kingroon brand. Yes it won't bend at all. I am going to see if my husband can get it to bend. I used 3 walls and 10 infill and left everything else alone

Deanne Murray

Did you try wiggling it free a bit? What settings and filament are you using? Some filaments can expand a little more :)

Kirsten McKenzie

Yay, great, I'm so glad you're enjoying it! And I can run a test on it tonight to double check! The shoulder puppet dragon has very similar joints and does well down to like 60% or so. You can also try printing just the head piece smaller so you don't waste too much filament! That's the main part that might have more trouble but should be able to scale fine :)

Kirsten McKenzie

I'm having a hard time with the neck joints the one closest to the body I can't bend

Deanne Murray

I've printed the body and neck so far, and the connector piece works so well! The neck joints are so much better, too! The joint closest to the head was easy to loosen and start working, but the other joint made me a bit nervous. Luckily, with some gentle persuasion, it came loose and works perfectly as well! I do have a question, though. How small of scaling has this print been tested? I have small hands, and my customers are mostly children, so I may need to scale this guy down a bit, but I'm nervous to test it myself because it is a significant time and filament commitment. Has anyone had success printing this scaled down? If so, how far?

Kristi Pearce

Thanks so much! <3

Kirsten McKenzie

nice update...great improvement :)

joe martinez

Yay! 🥰

Kat Sith

No supports for any of the pieces! :)

Kirsten McKenzie

This may not be the right place to ask but do you do the head and tail with supports or have you found that print in place works okay?

Kat Sith

Yeah that might help! I know one of my testers did it with silks without issue, some filaments can just be a little finicky sometimes :)

Kirsten McKenzie

I will try the flow calibration and see. May be the gap can be increased a bit by .001 mm or something along those lines

Edward

Gotcha! Sometimes the silks expand more than others or get wonky. Can you send me some pics on Facebook or Instagram?

Kirsten McKenzie

Eryone silk filament. 0.4 nozzle. Its a X1C

Edward

What filament and nozzle and settings are you using?

Kirsten McKenzie

There are two pairs of joints on the head section. Both joints are fusing together. The one closer to the head can come loose with some wriggling. But the other pair is super fused and almost impossible to wriggle apart.

Edward

Yay!! I hope it does well for you ,3

Kirsten McKenzie

Aww yay! I'm glad!

Kirsten McKenzie

Thanks!

Kirsten McKenzie

Yes!!! I’m gonna print one right away and give it a whirl!! ❤️

Kristi Pearce

I was at a pagan festival it was big hit

Douglas S Manfull

Joyce Carter
