Compiling lists, and your data
Added 2024-11-01 12:42:13 +0000 UTCFYI, the deal here is that anyone who's been a patron is going to get a free e-copy of the book, eventually. To fulfil that promise, Patreon makes some data available to me -- I can export a list of all members, which includes a name (not necessarily your real name, it's the one you provide in your own profile), your email address, the "tier" of your patronage, and some misc statistics like joined date, lifetime pledge amount, date of egress (if you stop being a patron).
There are columns in the data for Address, Street, City, Zip etc... but I didn't configure this account to ask for those things because I am not sending out physical things in the mail. For me, those columns are blank.
Patreon added the "free" tier without asking me. Or if they did, I didn't get the memo or it went in my Junk folder. Whatever. I'm thrilled to have free members here staying in touch on my music theory projects! But the free patrons will not get a free e-copy of the book; that perk is only for the patrons that contribute financially.
The point of this post is I want to be transparent about what information I have about you.
And it's also a warning: PLEASE check your profile and ensure that your email address is real, because that's how I'll contact you when there's something to send. Real, and permanent -- not a throwaway "burner" email. Something that is likely to be available to you years from now. ie not a work email at your job. Not implying that you're going to be laid off but hey it's happened to me and I'm not special.
A quick update:
Work on the book has slowed down; I have been puttering away at the music theory project(s) but lately it's been focused on the website and optimizing some processes I use to update it. Invisible upgrades.
Grateful always,
Ian
