He just wants to completely incapacitate the soldier, taking his time expertly restraining the soldier, so there's no chance of escaping, and limiting almost completely any movement. But he doesn't stop there, he stuffs a rag inside the soldier's mouth and wraps tape all over his head, so that he can't yelp for help, or plan an escape with other captive soldiers. And of course to make him more helpless, to blindfold him, so he can't see where he's being taken to, or where his captors are. This ensures that the captive soldier is totally under control of the captors.
