[May Release]: Betta class Light Skimmer

(Edit: Go ahead and refresh that CG&T download page, the Betta light class skimmer drone (And Plakat Monowheel) should be up now~
As usual I recommend downloading things separately so that things don't hang up
I'm excited to see what kinda wonky stuff comes outta this one there's a lot of interchangeability~

Added winglets as a last last last minute edit, and now I'm done for the month. these have been added to the CG&T folder, once the supported ones come back I'll be adding those and make another notification from to this post~
~Pipes)

Ok so it's that time of the month again where I make a blurb about the state of things and what's going down this month~

In the realm of the current skimmer models, I had to drop the monowheel. Designing around the wheel while trying to keep it in line with the form of the piranha and then adding drones to it proved to be a way too cluttered and I kinda continued to just...hate it, and in a kinda desperate bid to make something that I was actually pleased with I set about re-working it for a third time.

"But Piper, you can't mostly rework the Betta again." you might think.

"Oh yes I can.  With the power of caffeine, making a conscious effort to not sleep, and the right montage music, anything is possible."

Now all this has kinda left me feeling like for the time being I am going to refrain from making more vehicles, at least, for a little bit. Every single one of them has left me feeling just, bitterly frustrated after I wrap the kits up x'D and sure eventually I come around on them, but I'm never satisfied in the same way that I am when I complete one of the mecha kits.

I am going to be missing the lighter of the two skimmers unfortunately (at least for the immediate drop on the 4th), if I find some time in between the surgery stuff, I'll see if I can't put something together with the monowheel, I've got enough mostly finished assets for it at this point.

___

With all that said I am more content with the third iteration of the Betta. All the engines are on individual ball joints for angling/rotation (and for any kind of horrible kitbash you can come up with that involves ball joints xD), the drone hub uses the sensor-less bottom and technically can fit any drone excluding the shield drones I think if your so inclined. The weapon slots work with any of the undermounts but this kit will have it's own more angular brrrt cannon, fusion and sensor suite. Overall I think this fits the form better and I'm about as content as I think I'll be. Renders shown with a 60mm base.

I'm gonna be sending these over to Atlas today, and the initial file set will be up as per usual on the 4th with the supported files following as soon as I get them back and tested~

Now I do initially apologize for all the monowheel supporters, but I really wasn't feeling it on this particular one from the initial concepts, but it should have it's own stand alone model sometime this month to go along with the Betta.

(Also for new folks, patreon and CG&T tend to be slow and finnicky for the first few days of the month while the servers catch up with all the pledges and such. If you're having any trouble you can always reach out to the patreon-tech-support board on the discord which is the easiest way to get in contact with me (patreon no longer emails me notifications for messages despite me having it on), but for right now, usually it's just gotta work through it's own server load~ I apologize on their behalf for the delays if any~)

Thanks, Piper. Found it yesterday on CG&T and is now in the printer queue!

David Woods

The Betta (like a betta fish~) Skimemr kit is the file stet name of the one pictured here in the renders. It was May's release, and is now available on my CG&T store: https://comicsgamesandthings.com/shop/product/betta-light-skimmer-drone/ as a pre-supported fileset~ ~Pipes

Poyper

...oh...and what's a 'Betta kit'?

David Woods

Thanks for the prompt reply, Piper. I posted renders of the Chiclid Carrier Grav tank (which I will have printed as well as the skimmer and monowheel) on my FB modelling/painting page https://www.facebook.com/dwsmodels and it's getting a lot of interest...

David Woods

So while the monowheel technically can attach at the rear of the skimmer, this is more of a holdover from a previous iteration. That said all the things rendered here can be assembled with the Betta kit~

Poyper

I've only just discovered your work so please excuse my ignorance and oblige me by answering a couple of questions...are the variants seen above in the renders options included in the files? Does the Monowheel somehow attach to the Skimmer? Thanks

David Woods

I finally figured out what the skimmer reminds me of: https://batman.fandom.com/wiki/The_Bat

Stephen Rider

OH MY GAWD! These are Phabulous. I love your work.

Big Dadi

I really like the addition of the winglets. It reminds me of the Fugi and the Kaluga, which was the model that convinced me to sign on to the Patreon in the first place.

Kyle Bentley

Whooo! These sculpts look awesome! Wonderful work.

Grant Hulen

The wheelies look kick-ass :)

Nick Holt

Duly noted and an absolutely fair reason. CG&T here we go! :)

Gabriel Teixeira

Me and MMF (and a few other makers) don't really see eye to eye on a lot of things. My own experiences with them being almost purely negative. As a platform it definitely has advantages but they kinda burned that bridge when I was just getting started. I'd also rather support a small business then them regardless. CG&T isn't without it's own quirks/bugs, but it's got a crack team that is literally working every day to make the place better, and I'd rather grow with them then a larger group that doesn't really care to much about it's smaller makers. ~Pipes

Poyper

Hey! First of all, I love your work! However, I do have a question that you may have answered somewhere else and I did not see so I apologize if taht's the case but, is there any reason you don't use MMF to distribute your files? I find it so much better to use then CGT.

Gabriel Teixeira

You sir are amazing! Thanks alot

Daniel Thews

Solid choices overall. These are some beautiful designs. :)

James Rowley

I’m super happy to see the wheelie-boys made the cut; they look great!

DreadPirateLynx

You said ball joints and I said awesome! The kit before will have BOOSTERS lol

vdark5

Digitigrade leg references are my best friend~

Poyper

It's the legs for me.

LibertyBeta

This one's not too bad, get the main body mounted to the base and then base the engines motion/pose set up around that, comparatively easier then a mech I think~ ~Pipes

Poyper

This just makes me wish I was better a posing. If my commander frames are any indication I'm going to have a lot of..... Samples before I get done I like.

LibertyBeta

These just look so cool. Awesome work again!

Lucas Miguel

Love the horizontal engines! The look so much sleeker and aerodynamic. I am torn on if they are “better” than the vertical engines on the triggerfish as boxy goes along with the tank role and sleek goes with the speeder role.

Malthus Malfoy

I like the looks of this model, you are doing a great job here. Don´t stress yourself too much, it seems you are your worst critic, like with many artists. We love what you do.

Jan

Glad I haven't glued the Triggerfish engines on yet, I love these horizontal engines, and I'm sure with a little kitbashing can make them work on the older variants. Now I can choose, or maybe run both? Variety being the spice of life and all.

Jason Pedersen

Love the model . . . Hate the engines. Why make them horizontal when engines on the triggerfish and cichlid are vertical? They look totally wrong and out of place. I'll just have to do a bunch of modifying and kitbashing to get the older engines to fit this model

Bradley Westover

It's a nice model! It's sad for the monowheel, I was so excited by the last preview ^^ Take your time after your surgery to take care of yourself and be better (don't know if it's correct to say it like this, it's not my mother tong.. ^^')
