v1.0.8 - A week's worth of updates, and updates going forward
Added 2021-01-18 09:47:11 +0000 UTCSo just over a week has passed since the initial v1.0.0 release, and I wanted to do a quick recap of the main additions to the app, as well as some ideas for updates going forward.
So far:
- An updates menu to notify people of new updates, when they are released
- Re-organized the UI following some feedback, to keep letter-specific settings on the top bar, sequence-wide settings on the bottom bar
- Added a "Reset Letter" button, and added red colouring to the letter being edited, to make it more clear
- Addded an option in the settings to enable auto-playing the audio on finished generation
- Fixed issues where special characters in the input sequence broke file-saving (filename unsafe characters)
- Fixed a myriad of small bugs with the editor - hopefully it should be more stable now, though there are still a couple of kinks to iron out
- Adjusted the editor value scaling, in the sliders, and the Amplify/Flatten buttons
- Various small UI changes, following various bits of feedback/suggestion (such as hover effect on records, adding the file name to the file delete prompt, window sizes etc)
- Added the ability to specify custom file output paths on a per-game basis (this should make updating easier, too) - though check v1.0.8 for a tweak
The future:
There are still a good number of things on the TODO list, both from personal ideas, as well as suggestions from the Nexus/discord, and a few issues that need attention.
- Audio post-processing is one of the main features, that should allow for small changes to the audio, like extra silence padding at the start/finish, re-sampling, re-formatting, and so on.
- Keyboard shortcuts are another, to make navigation speedier.
- Batch generation of an input text file has been another idea, though the design of how that will happen (in terms of UX) is still in-progress
It's quite time-consuming to update all 6 nexus pages with every large upload, for the regular updates, and I'm sure people would appreciate less frequent big downloads. Additionally, it may be wise for me to not upload nightly builds straight into production, as there may be bugs that don't show up in testing on the same machine as the dev environment. As such, I'm considering adding nightly builds to the Supporters or Insiders tier, where people can get early access to these builds (for a few days maybe), and hopefully let me know if there are any issues with these, before I do less regular updates to the Nexus releases.
I'm happy to take feedback on this idea here, or on Discord.
