With Regards to the New Patreon Payment Controversy
Added 2017-12-07 22:01:59 +0000 UTCHey all, just wanted to send a quick message in light of Patreon's announcement that they'll be charging more per backer. This pertains particularly to backers at the $1 level.
From now on, Patreon expects each backer to pony up a 35 cent transaction fee for every creator they support, plus a percentage that goes straight to Patreon. This means that you'll potentially be charged $1.37 instead of $1 if you're backing us at a dollar. Similar fees apply to larger donators, but they're not as big of a deal as they don't increase your backer pledge by quite as much relative to your pledge.
This is pretty sucky (Kotor backs a bunch of people on his own Patreon, and has a lot of $1 pledges that are going to get more expensive), and we don't want you to feel a huge extra burden in giving us money. While this new system means that we do get a full dollar instead of the dollar minus Patreon's fees, we're aware that there is often a reason you're backing us at $1 rather than a larger fee.
Here's the important bit:
TO MAKE LIFE EASIER FOR YOU, WE'RE GOING TO POST OUR EXCLUSIVE CONTENT TO ALL BACKERS, RATHER THAN $1+ PATRONS.
This means that if you drop your pledge to, say, $0.50 in order to compensate for the extra charge, you'll still get to see our sporadic posts.
That said, if you want to keep your pledge the same and make sure we get a full dollar, we really appreciate it. In the meantime, we're going to be petitioning Patreon to try and get this sorted out, because it's a service-wide change that affects not just all of you, but also everyone who uses the site to back creators they love (including our pledges to cool people that we want to support).
Thanks everyone, you're wonderful. We may (MAY) have a new video ready tomorrow, but BretonStripes is sick at the moment and may not be able to record it. It's otherwise ready to go, so it'll definitely be along some time next week.
Have a great day!
