Hi guys! Kotor here!
So we're working on a bit of a different video this week to help us catch our breath. People seemed to like our entry for the RiME contest a while back, so we're thinking of making a similar video loosely based on the standard Zelda story.
I've been playing with different art styles to try and make this video stand out - I want something quirky and storybook-esque that, I'll be honest, might be a bit quicker to draw than one of our standard videos. The hope is that, if I can find the right look, we might even be able to start doing these regularly as additional videos alongside our standard stuff on games development.
So I started with the idea of a very loose, bright, children's drawing style picture. This seemed fun, but didn't quite have the look I was going for - it looks shoddy and lazy, and that's not what we're going for at all (even if I am trying to speed things up, I don't want to do that while forsaking production value, which is the tricky part).
Then I thought, why not do something that's a little more inspired on the intro for Wind Waker? So I started with that idea, and then ended up taking it in a slightly different direction by embracing this kind of thick-lined, watercolour design. Personally I like this better, but I wanted to get your opinion on it.
So which do you like best? Bear in mind that these are quick drawings and I'll probably redo whichever one I choose. Do you like the top or the bottom one best? Or do you think we're better off sticking with a slightly more complex and time consuming style that means fewer videos?
Thanks! You guys are awesome!
PS I might bounce this question out to Twitter later this week too.
PPS BretonStripes' blooper video for hitting our $100 milestone is almost ready, it just needs some level mixing so it won't hurt your ears.
