[Assets] Sci-Fi Screenspace Pack - December 2025

This month’s asset pack release is our Sci-Fi Screenspace effects pack, featuring two incredibly powerful, Goo-Engine exclusive screenspace assets that you may recognize from our Progenitor series!

Explosive Portal

This effect was used for the Ruin Grader’s dramatic entrance in Progenitor: episode 2! It consists of several shader techniques such as ray-casting and ray-marching (the large cluster of node groups at the top of the node-tree) to create the shape of the hole itself, but the Screenspace Info node is used to distort the wall outwards to create a melting, bulging effect around the edges of the hole. It’s also used in projecting the hole surface onto the existing geometry (the two annotated clusters of nodes to the left of the node-tree).

The depth output of the Screenspace Info is used to project the background geometry to the object space of the decal object the material is applied to. Try playing with the hue of this effect to create portals, explosions, black holes, or other powerful impacts. Screenspace Slash

Showcasing the power of the screenspace info node, this textured plane can displace anything that the camera can see “through”. Just taking the Slice Animation node from 0 to 1 is enough to create the cut effect, while the animation curves node gives control over how the interpolation behaves.

Using the Vector Transform node to convert the displacement vector from object-space to camera-space means the plane can be rotated to control the slice angle while keeping the displacement parallel to the slice direction.
