Video: Pacers & Pops w/ Samson Folk

By Caitlin Cooper I @C2_Cooper

For this month's patron-only popsicle content, I decided to invite over one of my hoops pals for frozen treats while we discussed the basketball played by the Indiana Pacers. The other half of this one of kind conversation (seriously, where else in the NBA-media universe are you going to find a video quite like this?) is brought to you by the very insightful, incredibly articulate, and always original Samson Folk of Raptors Republic. During the regular season, Samson and I collaborated many times with shared words covering our respective teams at his website, so I decided to return the favor, shifting the focus over to Indiana for his outside perspective.

Assuming this interests you (which, why wouldn't it?), run to the freezer, grab your favorite pop, and join us for Pacers & Pops.

Timestamps:

1:42 - Revealing our popsicle selections (creamsicles aren't pops!)

3:57 - If the pops were Pacers, who would they be?

11:25 - Samson's favorite non-Haliburton watch on the Pacers

19:47 - Comparing the Pacers/Raptors seasons

25:13 - Debating the most important element of building an elite defense

36:20 - Breaking down the value of "position-less" players

44:08 - What would Samson like to steal from the Pacers for the Raptors?

52:00 - Terminology, how much does it matter?

54:38 - Discussing our condensed approaches to draft prep and what traits we gravitate toward

1:01:00 - What is Samson currently most curious about in basketball?

Enjoy the video, and if you like my work here at Basketball, She Wrote, you will likely also like Samson's work at Raptors Republic. Maybe, consider subscribing

I'm glad. Samson is among the very best at talking and writing about basketball, in my opinion. Always very happy to collaborate with him.

Awesome episode. Samson is great! Will listen to/read his stuff anytime.

That’s fair. In the case of the Pacers, they still ranked 25th in first-chance points (points allowed my second-chance points). They aren’t a good rebounding team, but some of the issues on the glass are a product of the defensive issues — if that makes sense.

Caitlin Cooper

Your list of key defensive issues should include minimizing second shots.
