Spider-Man: No Way Home (Theatrical Version) | Full Watch Along

Where do I begin my usual essay with this one... The payoff of watching every Spider-Man movie leading up to this point was ENORMOUS. Thank you for the warnings to make sure I watch all of them before this one! Tobey's heart, Andrew's pain, Tom's growth. It felt like everything I've loved about Spider-Man over the past few months collided into one wholesome, emotional heart to heart moment. When the portal opened and Andrew took off his mask... I think I went into a state of excited shock πŸ˜…πŸ©·

What makes Spider-Man special isn't just the superhero aspect. It's the love, the sacrifice, and the endless drive to do what's right even when the world takes everything away from him. Aunt May's death in this one completely broke me. The way Tom looked at her.. This raw, wordless anger and grief. You could literally see the weight of Spider-Man truly settling onto his shoulders. The weight of greatness and responsibility.

This movie reminded me why Spider-Man has recently been the hero for me. He's the most human of them all. Constantly falling, constantly getting back up again. Always protecting others even at his own expense and pain. After this entire Spider-Man journey we've been on, nobody can take that personal number one spot from him anytime soon.

I absolutely loved this love letter to all of the Spider-Man fans out there. It left us with that same important reminder: no matter how heavy life gets, keep swinging πŸ•ΈοΈπŸ©·

Next up we're taking a bit of a detour through some DC films! I'll be uploading a New Superhero Odyssey with my plans soon so keep a lookout for it 🍿 See you all there!

For me, as a life-long Spider-Man nerd, this is the first film that really tackled the weight of the character. For many, it's in any number of iterations of the Great Responsibility speech. However, in my case, it was when he chose not to tell MJ, Ned and Happy who he was. In my eyes, that is when he became Spider-Man. The closest approximation to my own life that I can draw upon is when I had to break up with someone that I love with my whole heart, because our relationship was only enabling her to cling more firmly to her toxic behavioral patterns. She was never going to grow as long as I was there as a reminder that her ways were acceptable. As is the case with Peter, sometimes in life, we have to make overwhelmingly heavy decisions, often failing to ever learn that we did, indeed, make the correct call.

When I first saw this it felt like I was back to being 12 again, watching Spider-Man 1 at my nan's with a mug of hot chocolate and pancakes πŸ”₯
