Frak this Podcast! #10 - Flesh and Bone

This week on the Frak This Podcast,we’re diving into Flesh and Bone — the episode where Kara "Starbuck" Thrace goes full space-Gitmo, and Leoben begins his journey to become the world's creepiest dude - as well as how this episode lowkey kicks off all the prophecy plotlines — from Kira’s special destiny to the dreamlike weirdness that will eventually lead to opera houses in space. Battlestar Galactica was a strange show haha.

So in response to Vera, she shouldn't be too surprised by the polytheistic humans believing in cycles of time and reincarnation. The 3 Abrahamic religions & Zoroastrianism--another monotheistic religion--talk about the time of the world and human life being a one-and-done thing whereas in contrast a huge, huge number of religions worldwide believe in cycles of time and/or reincarnation. The contrast of the polytheistic humans with the monotheistic Cylons was something I loved when I first watched the show & something I still appreciate. Interesting your ranking of the seasons of BSG. I think season 1--which has it's flaws yes as Vera & you have noted--is on the whole incredible. I also think season 2 up to the end of the Admiral Cain trilogy is incredible. The remaining half of season 2 I think is quite weak and I dislike season 3 & think season 4 is really quite bad (I give season 3 major kudos for having the courage to criticize the Iraq war and it does with good writing but also does so in a way that doesn't gell well with what happened before or after it so my aesthetic evaluation is rather different from my political evaluation). I think that after the Admiral Cain trilogy that narratively the show kinda starts to fall apart and eventually it falls apart tonally and thematically as well. The final season of BSG used to my go to child for my most hated tv series ending of all time BUT then came the abominations of seasons 7 & 8 of Game of Thrones & I was able to recognize that for all that BSG did fall apart aesthetically, at least the characters weren't utterly ruined the way GoT ruined its characters.
