I know this one is a bit behind the relevancy curve (though maybe in awards season it'll become topical again) but I finally found time to watch the Barbie movie and I had many thoughts about it; because I think it ultimately comes to represent a lot of my hopes and frustrations with the current ongoing discourse surrounding politics, gender and related issues that I just need to discuss. I'm rather proud of what this one dives into. Also it gave me a chance to talk about The Matrix again haha. Barbie is structured much like The Matrix and its subsequent sequels… yet Barbie ultimately shies away from the same revolutionary statements of those films and underscores Barbie’s central failings at grappling with a basic feminist framework that falls short of comprehending the intersecting systems of power that gender finds itself as a critical cross gap between.
FYI; the next video is (FINALLY) the Star Wars video!!!!!!!!! I promise it'll have been worth it! Also; I'll have the patreon exclusive full interview with Princess Weekes about Barbie up later this week!
