The Insidious Violence of Civility Politics

The latest video is here. A history of civility politics and it's connection to racism, trans issues, gender roles and more and how they ultimately work to uphold power hierarchies. This is a rough one, especially toward the end, so take care of yourself <3 I'd love to hear your thoughts.

It's a shame to learn that Sabine takes such a problematic approach to discussing trans issues. She seemed to have a good approach to physics and harder sciences, though given what you've shown here, now I wonder about whether even that is true.

The speech at the end had me in a state that I will blame on the onions I was chopping while listening.

This was emotional, and brilliant. I feel your frustration and fears. On the question of civility, please try not to feel self doubts about your own communication style. You’re totally justified in my view. But at the same time, please take care! The central theme reminded me of Zizek and his views on ideology and in particular the truth behind the position of the perceived ‘hysteric’ whereby a valid critique of an ideological position is dismissed by those seeking to maintain that essentialist or ‘perverse’ position. The main issue is that the current incorrect social narrative subverts this logic. The conservative position seems mostly to be challenged on the basis of the fantastical hysteria behind their claims, rather than the reality - which for me is that they have adopted the philosophical position of Zizek’s pervert. The more GC ideology is exposed as a perverse position the better in my view. Love Crystal ❤️

I just cut my hair super short today and my happiness increased by so much. GIRLS HAVE LONG HAIR was repeated to me over and over when I was a kid (I was punished pretty badly the one time I cut it myself - welcome to the fundie life). By the time I was an adult, I was still repulsed by seeing much femininity when I looked into the mirror, but it never occurred to me until after I admitted how miserable I was that I could cut my hair short now and no one would hurt me.

I wish you'd enable the thanks option on your youtube videos. I like to show extra appreciation when I can, and sending a thanks donation is one of the ways I can do so easily. Granted. I do also understand why you wouldn't.

Ooh! Facebook can be good for some things! I just saw a very relevant meme and wanted to share it: “Don’t worry if you make waves by simply being yourself. The moon does it all the time.” Thought that was fun. 🌙 🌊 😉

This was wonderful. I am attempting to help by trying to first, help people understand transgenders and second, to help them understand why they unnecessarily have a fear of trandgenders. I believe once this is accomplished transgenders will be free to live happy and productive lives.

Hey Jessie and fans of Jessie (like me)!! 👋 ❤️ I had to break this video into chunks and watch it at break time and before and after work but I finished it! I loved the usual Jessie mix of insight, empathy and emotional responses to some of the worst parts (harmful systems and people who perpetuate them) and best parts (people loving, supporting and fighting for each other) of the world we all live in. I also loved the addition of insights from the perspective of Foreign Man in a Foreign Land. Becky Sparks I definitely understand the “small town” mentality that wants to hold dearly to some mythical “good old days” that never existed for anyone in the first place because their minds have been warped and stunted with crafty and insidious intention for generations. Sometimes it feels safer to hide, because often it literally is. But when we stand up and fight for ourselves in public we are never standing up and fighting for only ourselves. Every eye that sees us and ear that hears us has an impression of us, and leading by example is very real, and very effective—and the haters and the naysayers KNOW THIS TO BE TRUE. It may feel like a small thing to live your life with authenticity, fearlessness and joy—but the eyes and ears that witness you don’t just see you and hear you—they FEEL you. Your strongest argument about your right to exist is you not just existing but living your best life. We need to contribute more, and fight more, yes—but I definitely acknowledge from my lives experience hay leading by example is difficult, and you will get pushback from people who you thought you could trust but who are afraid to be authentic themselves, and you may be or may have been that person to someone and that’s okay, as long as you become aware, acknowledge the harm you may have contributed to, and work to do and be better. Please start to spread love in the world, and the best way to start is with yourself. ❤️

Honestly, I am terrified to express myself as enby. I've made myself and my needs so small that I don't even know how to move forward. I'm so tired and unhappy, but I am so afraid of doing anything to make it worse. And I am just ONE PERSON.

Hi Jessie

Sorry, one thing I noticed that you might want to edit is somewhere between timecodes 1:12:24-1:12:25, it's the only time r*pe wasn't bleeped out. I just thought you might want to know.

This feels like the be all, end all video when it comes to speaking out about the trans genocide we are currently experiencing. As always Jessie you do a great job of leaving me with more hope and you always light that fire in my heart to fight forward... to stand with others and fight for a better future for us all. It's also a great breakdown of the bullshit that is respectability politics, which ultimately appeases authoritarianism, fascism, white supremacy, capitalism and so many other awful and harmful systems. Really wonderful work! I hope this finds you well and remember your not in this fight alone. <3

I seem to say this in a lot of comments, but I am immensely grateful for you tackling these issues, and deeply sorry that it's necessary to do so. I'm one introvert nerd stuck in bible belt texas, so idk what I can do to help, but I will look for ways I can.
