Jumpgate #64 - Grey 17 is Missing

Well, we've reached perhaps the most INFAMOUS episode of Babylon 5, an episode considered so bad that JMS himself apologizes for it... but is it actually that bad? Vera and I have thoughts in the latest Jumpgate podcast!

JMS confirmed that Zathras is part of the upcoming B5 animated movie. https://twitter.com/straczynski/status/1667243664802717697

He's already running Babylon 5, and while the Minbari have warmed to him, he IS still Starkiller. I don't think he would have been accepted in the role. She and Sheridan are already coordinating their forces; I actually find it refreshing that a '90s show has its central couple acting as equals both in their relationship and with their power, as they are both leading a portion of their forces.

Oh... I still am figuring out how the Patreon works... That is what I was talking about, still cool!

CookingWithSilence

Ahh yeah. Tho why not Sheridan?

Which music? The opening is just the opening credits of teh show for Season 3

Oh my goodness, I had completely forgotten that the movie-within-a-movie in Bowfinger was called Chubby Rain. I remember seeing Bowfinger in an actual movie theater and thinking it was cute.

I never really understood the hate for this episode. I think most of it comes from there having been so many episodes in a row that had a lot of action and major plot movement (and payoffs for years-long set ups), and this one basically went back to the season 2 style of: plot A = political machinations, plot B = mystery/action. But I don’t think it’s a weak episode, especially the stuff with Delenn and Neroon. I don’t even think that Delenn being Anla'Shok Na is particularly weird. There hasn’t been any indication that it’s exactly a military position, and I think it’s a reasonable in-universe assumption that Delenn’s previous correct warnings about the Shadows returning, her position on the Grey Council, and work with leading the Rangers on B5, was exactly the kind of experience and demeanor that the job demands (though admittedly that isn’t outright stated in the show itself).

Raven Woods

I think the basis for Delenn taking over as Ranger One, aside from her experience in the Grey Council, is that she was already leading the Rangers in B5 space. Why not promote someone who was already in a leadership role within the organization?

Where did you get this music from? I love this so much!!!

CookingWithSilence

I thought the episode was fine

Fun fact: Later in the series we learn that Mimbari humor is based on a failure to reach spiritual/emotional enlightenment, so I think Neroon's laugh was genuine as Marcus had just out-Mimbaried him again by telling a joke predicated on Neroon's own failure with enlightenment this episode.
