I absolutely LOVE the idea of Cailyn being a post-transition Franklin! Everything fits! Even knowing where Franklin is going in the show, I think it all still fits! I think we can even make a reasonable argument that it might have been somewhat intentional in the writing, since we know Delenn was originally supposed to be a trans character, and has a number of story/character elements supporting that. Also, JMS wrote the lyrics to the songs in the episode, and the actress (Erica Gimpel, who was in Fame) sang them. Also also, a bit from JMS talking about it in the Lurker’s Guide from back when the show was airing is another bit that I think supports the reading: Q from Usenet: "When is walkabout a legitimate choice, and when is it a cop-out?" A from JMS: When you're more afraid of what you're running *to* than what you're running *from*. And boy does that feel like the Queer experience! Franklin being a transwoman is now my headcanon, thankyouverymuch! I have a recent headcanon that a couple of characters end up being a thing after the show ends (I won’t name the characters because it would spoil future episodes). It took me 30 years of having watched the show repeatedly, and reading one short story by JMS, to come to the realization that this pairing was a distinct possibility!
