Star Trek Picard 3.08 "Surrender" REVIEW

Comments

Since I've already seen episode 9, I buy into your theory about Jack. :) I was also shocked to see Vadik killed off. It reminded me of the Defenders where they killed off the Sigourney Weaver character before the finale although this is shaping up well while the Defenders was really a letdown. I loved the Geordi/ Data stuff., I can't remember it happened in this episode but I loved when Geordi got on Data for pessimism for saying they will all die and Data's response to be more positive is, "I hope we all die quickly".

Hmm...I was going with Jack is a Pah Wraith (the red eyes and all), but I like your Borg theory!

These keep getting better and my guess is Vadic's boss is behind the door. ...seeing everyone together again hits the "home sweet home" chords...

Vadic was a great villains, too bad she went to pieces ;). I wonder if she could return somehow since she's a Changeling. The scenes between Data and Lore were great and seeing Geordi and Data reunite was wonderful, as was seeing the entire TNG crew reunited. So many great things in this episode the tension on the bridge, Riker and Troi reuniting. I was also saddened to see T'Veen killed off, I think there were a lot of interesting things with her in a further series. The performances by the other Titan crew members were great, the emotion shown by Jin Maley (Kova) was very effective and Joseph Lee (Mathew Mura) was great when Vadic threatened him stating "I'm Starfleet" and "With pleasure" after being given the order to fire. Jack's red eyes remind me of control, I'm wondering if there's a connection. I think we may see the Borg Queen and/or Locutus on the other side of the red door.

I don't know. I haven't decided on what Jack's deal is yet. Could it be Borg? Maybe, but the imagery surrounding Jack doesn't appear Borg-related in the least, and the feeling of something ancient clinging to him? That's not how I'd expect the Borg to be presented. I think whatever is going on is a singular entity clinging to Jack, too weak to do anything other than subtly influence him and give him some powers. Given the DS9 connections, I'd make the pah-wraith guess, but Picard hasn't really had any connection to any of that until now and whatever this is was inherited from Picard. I don't know, can anyone think of some weird ancient beings that Picard may have been exposed to during TNG?
