Just got back from the Trans rally at the Indiana state house in Indianapolis. https://www.indystar.com/picture-gallery/news/local/indianapolis/2023/04/01/aclu-holds-rally-protect-trans-youth-indiana-statehouse/11583749002/ Great speakers. Nobody there to counter protest. Hundreds of people, probably over a thousand but I wouldn't swear to that, showing up to support TRANS Rights because they are human rights. There was one part where a speaker asked if anyone seriously believed that everyone in that crowd was Trans? Of course the response was "Hell, no!" Because we represent everyone who supports human rights and human compassion. F it all, to paraphrase Gandhi, I am a Christian and I am a Jew, and I am Islamic and I am black and I am Asian and I am gay and straight and bi and Trans. Y'know what, I'm rambling but what I said a minute ago was wrong because I AM Trans. I don't mean that in some sort of appropriating way but just that if someone is being a bigot and hurting my sister, Jessie, or any woman who just happens to have found her true gender post-birth, or any trans man who has found his true gender after birth, then that bigot IS hurting me. We stand together!

As soon as I saw that a shooter was trans, I had that "Oh no!" reaction because I knew that it would be used as an excuse for hatred against all trans people just as similar things would be used against gay or black or what have you. Bigotry just wants an excuse. After 9/11, every Islamic guest on any conservative talk show was asked to condemn the terrorist attacks. Even when they did, it was claimed that they were alone because no other Islamic group condemned the attacks even when numerous Islamic groups did condemn them. Meanwhile, of course, no Christian guest was ever asked to condemn the Westboro Baptist church because there was no implication that "If one of them did it, they all did it", one of the hallmarks of bigotry. But that doesn't help you or any trans person right now. All I can say is *hugs*. This may seem trite but one of the best sayings I ever heard was, "When you share love, there's more of it and, when you share pain, there's less of it". Btw, I'll definitely post about what happens tomorrow at the Trans rally here in Indianapolis. Hopefully, I'll survive it. I suspect there will be counter protestors.

I really needed this video. I've been struggling all week with trying to express this idea and drowning in well meaning "ban guns" posts from friends that seemed to miss the intersectional violence going on. If I'm honest, I just didn't have the space to grieve this particular tragedy, which sucks, but such is life. And to your point about thinking "oh great, now I have to defend my existence all week," I saw a meme to that effect on LGBTQ reddit before I knew the shooter was trans. But when I saw that meme, I still didn't know the shooter was trans because it seemed likely enough that they would claim the shooter was trans whether true or not, as has more or less been done before. I know how hard this was to make but it really was a blessing to make my hard week just a tiny bit less lonely.

I’m trans masc, and I’m so tired of the vilification of T. It’s just a scapegoat for cis men’s nurtured violence. But that aside, I’m mourning with you. I’m so sorry that you had to make this, and I’m even more sorry this is happening at all. Please take care of yourself; you aren’t alone. I’m standing with you.

I feel the community's sadness, pain and exhaustion every time. I too just want you to mainly be able to focus on the happy & exciting things you've planned but with all these things constantly happening I understand needing to fight back despite the emotional dogpile. Please take care. ❤️

Friend, You're not alone. We are community and the support goes across the spectrum, from the voices raised to the public to the hard conversations had in homes and among families. The rage can be paralyzing, it's so hot within my chest. I'm thankful that you are able to overcome the anger, the pain and the fear to release videos like this one. Even though it's difficult to watch, I can appreciate the exponentially more difficult challenge in writing, performing and editing this video. It matters. Every trans life matters and is worthy of protection. Please have all the love in the world.
