Star Trek Enterprise Season 1 Retrospective - PATRON EXCLUSIVE

THE LOST VIDEOS ARRIVE! So this was a video I wrote and filmed in back in 2019 or so, but never released since I was saving it for if I got sick or a rainy day and needed to release content. But, it never happened, and now the video isn't reflective of my growth as a creator. So I'm releasing it here, and I have a few more videos that I release once I polish them up a bit over the next few months as well! I hope you enjoy this one!

Star Trek Enterprise Season 1 Retrospective - PATRON EXCLUSIVE

Comments

Man I miss Enterprise. Glad you released this - I think I'm going to rewatch and introduce my partner to some of the episodes that really shine. 😊

The opening theme is great. Enterprise premiered a month after I started college, and the song's aspirational lyrics matched perfectly with what I was feeling at the time. (I especially needed something relentlessly optimistic to keep me focused on my personal future after 9/11 shook the world.) It did take a while before I was comfortable thinking about it as a "Star Trek" song, but I definitely had it on my playlist all through college.

So much ahead of you! Congrats!

Back when it originally aired, I remember going on message boards and taking endless flak for liking the show. But I knew that what I liked about it was the more "primitive" feeling. There was one where they went against a ship they had no chance against because the other ship had this thing called "shields" and also something like phasers while the Enterprise had an armor-plated hull and lasers. As you would say, the complaints about this came from people who clearly don't like a good concept. However, there were bad sides. The use of T'Pol as eye candy was one of them (albeit I thought she was very attractive). Jolene Blalock apparently regularly had to argue with Berman about certain scenes (like a scene where she was supposed to eat meat and vulcans are vegetarians) because she knew Star Trek canon far better than he did. But, after so many 24th century shows, I had looked forward to a show in a time when they weren't slavish to the Prime Directive. But then, we have Archer allowing a genocide based on a law that didn't even exist in his time. Luckily, the last two seasons were so good but I jokingly compare them to the last season of the A-Team. Yes, it got tremendously better at the end but most people didn't know that because they weren't watching it anymore. I really loved the growing and non-sexual friendship between Archer and T'Pol. I always heard complaints online about how it was trying to be Kirk and Spock. BUT, the story of how Kirk and Spock became best friends was never told in canon while we see it play out with Archer and T'Pol. P.S. Sorry for the long diatribe.

IΒ΄ve started a rewatch of Enterprise. ItΒ΄s the first rewatch IΒ΄ve done of the series. Compare that to all the others shows where I often rewatch a random episode or an entire season, this says a lot. My overall feeling is that there was so much potential but very little of that came to fruition. Like you said in the video, most episodes for just bland. I remember going into the series in the early 2000s very excited but ultimately being disappointed. One of the reasons for this was the treatment of the women on the show. After the complex and interesting women of both DS9 and Voyager this was such a let down. I was disappointed in how male gazey the show was. While TΒ΄Pol is my favorite character of the show I wish the treatment of the actress and character had been better and Linda Park deserved so much better. In my rewatch I write down which episodes I think are especially good. Season 1 only had two such episodes. Season 2 had 5 so very much looking forward to your video on season 2 :)

I’m still a relatively new Trekkie and I’m working my way through the shows but I’m already excited to watch this when I get to Enterprise

The video says it was released 2 weeks ago? That aside, even though you feel it doesn't show your growth, I love the excitement and passion for a series you so deeply resonate with.

I really enjoyed this video, although I completely understand why you shelved it and are releasing it on here. I seriously liked the series inception and season breakdown. It's nice to see some praise and solid critical analysis of a show I really love... even with the many problems I have with it. I also love the quiet and community driven aspects of the ship and my brother and I still talk about how awesome it is that the crew have movie nights. I don't remember if it's in this season but when Trip invites T'Pol to movie night for as he puts it "the greatest trilogy of all time: Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein and Son of Frankenstein." This makes my nerdy horror loving self giddy and is one of my favorite moments in the show if not series in general. If anything it kinda made me want to give this show a rewatch even though I did a full Star Trek franchise rewatch about the time this video was probably shot. It would also would give me a chance to listen to your Podcast on it. Oh and your right, "Faith of the Heart" is unironically great and even as a child I felt that way... it seriously confused me when I grew up and found out the fanbase initially didn't love it. Just out of curiosity are any of the future Lost Videos about the following seasons of Enterprise?
