Jumpgate #42 - Divided Loyalties

It's time for the totally not gay "GAL PALS" episode of Babylon 5; where Ivonnova and Talia may have a sleep over, they may sleep in the same bed; but THEYRE TOTALLY JUST GAL PALS I SWEAR! Oh also; Lyta comes back and there's a sleep agent on Babylon 5... BUT GAL PALS!

Yeah; I wish the actress had wanted to come back so we got a resolution to it

I feel conflicted with this episode. On the one hand, I love everything with Ivana and Talia. On the other, it sucks that this episode also fridges Talia. I know they intended her to return and more to happen, but that stuff didn't happen, so this effectively killed off the Talia we knew :(

When Bester reveals Talia’s ultimate fate in season 3 😭

When I introduced my boys to B5 a year or so ago, my older son noticed the chemistry between Ivanova and Talia immediately when they met and told us that he shipped them, and my younger son watched a little longer and agreed. I'd watched the show so many times that I wasn't sure if I had been reading too much into it, but nope - their chemistry was always amazing. I understand that Andrea Thompson didn't want to return to the show, but I'm still heartbroken that Talia never came back to Ivanova. My younger son actually had the same reaction when Sheridan first saw Delenn, though I do think that was more a case of the show telling us how to feel instead of natural chemistry between actors.

This had to be the most hilarious podcast ever, but I totally felt the same way about this episode. Like it was gayer then a "just totally gal pals" episode of Xena.

I laughed so hard at the delivery of "SHE'S IN A SILK ROBE!"

One of my favorite episodes when I was growing up… partly because I had a huge crush on Lyta, but beyond that… really strong! I do kind of wonder if PsiCorp Talia appears in any Expanded Universe material, on that subject the Babylon 5 tie-in comic actually spoiled the twist due to an issue with publication vs airing dates… but I don’t know how big a deal it was at the time. Two thoughts: does this qualify as Kill Your Gays? Obviously Ivanova is still around, but she’s not allowed to be happy and the Talia we knew is both essentially dead and a lie. Second: how did I never realize as a kid that Talia and Lyta are almost anagrams?

A great episode. I did NOT see the twist coming AT ALL.
