Holding YouTube Accountable

Hey everyone, so here is the video about what's going on with YouTube. My aim is to release this video to the public on Monday once the reedited Matt Walsh video has had room to breathe in the algorithm. But I'd love your thoughts on it before hand, in case there's anything you think I should address or missed.

i totally feel you. the only reason i didnt watch the matt walsh video/s is because i cant stand listening to him that long :-/

The fight is tough but worth it. Standing strong with you! 💪🏻

to S. L. Fight's point earlier, I would find it really helpful if there could be time-stamps provided before each clip of Matt Walsh so I could skip over it. I understand why you included those clips, but to take best care of myself I can't watch them, and as-is I needed to mute & skip forward through them. edit: I'd be happy to put these together, & any applicable content notices for the clips, if that'd be helpful, as well

Congrats on your top surgery! I think a content warning would be helpful, too - I'm glad I read this before watching so I was aware going in

I wonder if YouTube was full of it when they said the reason for the community strike was that one joke five minutes in, ie they had to find *something* quickly as a reason.

I think talking about the fact that YouTube seems to want to just appease people was really good. To often companies will try to appease folks enough just to make them quiet and not cause a fuss. They wave their magic hands and suddenly the problem is no more, but you better not do it again!!! They don't want to be branded as 'anti-LGBTQ+' cause that would be 'bad for business.' In a way, I wonder how much YouTube actually wants there to be this tension between right-wing rhetoric and LGBTQ creators as it brings in more views and thus more money.

I had to rewatch the Nebula vid just to see what joke could possibly be so heinous as to warrant a complaint. (I kinda figured it had been the naked cartoon in the sex ed book as there would have been at least some semblance of twisted logic there) That joke was pretty much nothing at all. Honestly, if anyone should complain, it'd be X-Men Origins Wolverine for being associated with Matt Walsh (At least Origins gave us our first glimpse of Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson, so it had some small redeeming factor)

Matt actually just told a university - prove to me you are not doing all of the ridiculous things I’m accusing you of by tomorrow or I will unleash an angry mob I control on you. This man is sick! Please someone just for once in his pathetic life say “Matt, no that’s hateful and not ok.” Goddess he makes me so mad! I have to go garden for a bit. 😤

I don't have a lot of optimism that YouTube will really do anything about this. It's more likely that they will make a lot of promises to appease people, then make superficial changes that don't address the real problem. I can't imagine they would do anything that might jeopardize those Daily Wire advertising dollars. Unless marginalized people can come up with half a million dollars to throw around whenever we need it, YouTube won't care. This seems to be the pattern with a lot of companies, not just YouTube. I still think you are doing the right thing and I will still help in any way I can, even if it's just liking tweets. I'm hoping that this feeling of futility is something manufactured to discourage people from trying to change things in the first place, and maybe all of us have more power than we think.

Jessie! First comment and a new patron. I would have really appreciated a content warning around minute 13 where Walsh talks about trans people having surgeries. I had top surgery back in August and I felt like I got punched in the stomach when he expressed his /opinions/ on trans people who have surgeries. He's despicable.

Also im confused about how you write mannequin in English :)

Thank you so much for the hard work ! I find the video super clear !!

I saw Kats statement before this. What they did to her was just wrong. And you’re right about the steering to conservative content. When I first starting looking for movie/tv commentary I didn’t realize what a political space it was and was steered into watching the quartering for a minute. I eventually caught on though. Thankfully it seems that once I found Princess Weeks and Khadijah Mbowe the algorithm finally got the right idea.
