Some Cool News

Hey everyone! So a few things have been happening behind the scenes involving YouTube. I'll share more info in a bit, but I've been working with folks at Nebula, who have been awesome in helping advocate for me and my video with YouTube. It's not where it needs to be, but the conversations are happening which is a step in the right direct. While all of you can already see the video, at this point at least, it looks like I can get a version of the Matt Walsh video up for the public on YouTube on Friday, and an uncensored version will stay here on Patreon and Nebula. I'll have more info next week in a video, and while I'm not... happy with everything, I will say that the conversations are at least moving forward in a direction that seems positive and might actually be a way for us (Nebula, myself, all you and few other creators) to change things on YouTube for marginalized communities. I'm skeptical but hopeful.

I have just filmed a video today about the situation, and I'll have it up on Patreon once I edit it by this weekend hopefully, and then I'll release it publically for everyone next week once the Matt Walsh video reedit gets some time to breathe.

However, I got some other, completely unrelated and positive news. And it's Star Trek related too! I meant to share this last weekend with you all, but sadly it got delayed because of all the Matt Walsh video stuff. As I announced the other day on YouTube Community tab, I am going to be taking part in a Livestream roundtable event with The Companion with Kyle from Trekspertise, and Spotted Giraffe from the Strange New Pod. They're both awesome if you haven't check them out before.  For the event, we will be watching a fantastic interview with George Takei and cover the discussion topics in detail together. The full interview with George Takei is on The Companion, and our roundtable will be on the 22nd for free on YouTube.

For those of you who don't know (cause I didn't until they reached out), The Companion is, in their words, "a website and app for those who love science fiction. It is not just articles either. There are interviews with actors, showrunners, and experts from lots of shows. They are even doing a bunch of innovative and fun stuff, like having a Google AI expert create scenes of Stargate and getting the original cast together to table read its creation! It has exclusive and award-winning articles from within various fandoms like Star Trek, Stargate, The Expanse."

So all stuff we love here. And I will say, I did watch their Stargate AI-generated script, and it was awesome. Mostly just to see my boy Rodney McKay again haha.

Part of the reason The Companion is doing this event with me, besides a cool topic of discussion, is that they're a small team with the aim of raising the level of coverage and discussion in fandom. So they in their words "also want to encourage people to promote their platform, so they reached out to Jessie to offer you a 100-day free trial to their site. It is completely worry-free as you can cancel anytime during the trial period, and they will notify you 3 days before the trial period ends. You will be able to watch the George Takei interview and all the other guests coming up on To Boldly Ask..."

I want to be clear that they are not sponsoring me or giving me any money to give you the trial, nor am I getting paid to appear on the roundtable. I'm just going on the roundtable because it seems fun. So there's no kickback to me or anything like that that I'm getting from sharing this. They're just looking to promote their platform, and from my times talking with them and hanging with them, they seem to be cool nerds who like doing what they're doing. So, just wanted to be clear that I'm only sharing this cause I think they're cool, they offered to give the free trial to you all in hopes they can encourage like-minded folks onto their platform, and I think you all might enjoy it, but I just want to be clear there's no pressure from me to sign-up, I'm only sharing it in case you all might be interested.

Here's the link if any of you are interested. - https://go.thecompanion.app/JessieGender

Anyways, I hope you enjoy it if you want it, and it should be a fun time doing the live stream on Saturday.

What a relief to at last know what triggered YouTube's tantrum. Sounded like abusive parents saying, "Well if you don't know what got you in trouble I"m certainly not going to tell you. Now go to your room without dinner and think about what you've done. Don't come out until you can tell me what you did that was bad." Let's call them the Mind Fuck Police.

It's completely absurd that it took such hoop-jumping to get the information, especially since those hoops are not available to anyone not affiliated with Nebula >:(

Cool

I'm so glad the Nebula folks have been advocating for you!! Advocating on behalf of their creators is one of the main reasons I love and value Nebula so much (a while back Sarah Z got some legal threats & Nebula helped her, too). Continuing to send you spoons and warm fuzzy vibes ❤️

I so happy you have good people in your corner and great things to look forward to. You deserve so much joy. Take care x

I'm heartened by the subject. It's about time that Good Things started to break for Jessie! You've been having it rough for long enough. P.S. Watched your Ep 9 Review of Lower Decks. One detail I've noticed is that McMahan is nodding to the TNG trope of Admirals being Corrupt. I mean, we don't *know* if Buenamigo is corrupt, but my radar is pinging. Sort of in the same way that a bunch of Captains from TOS ended up becoming corrupted by their power. (Maybe that can be a subject of a future Jessie Gender vid, "Power Corrupts in Star Trek". Eh??? eh???? *waggles eyebrows*)

SuperDezzy

yay for something fun for a change!

Totally fair. Such a frustrating situation. None of the clips, nor any part of the video, should have been on their radar at all. Awful that it's eclipsed your week so thoroughly

They have confirmed the issue. It took literally three appeals prompted only by Nebula and Nebula having private talks with them to get the info, but I did get the confirmation. I have... thoughts on what it is that frustrate me, but I wanna make sure I am clear in my wording about why I take issue with it, so I'll share it all with you first here when I finish editing the video, and I'll prob release the video sometime next week for everyone.

Have they confirmed yet which bit was the problem? Just curious if you had spotted the clip yourself?
