Why do people dunk on ROP? I love it!

Thank you again Jessie for your nuanced and fair criticism. Wouldn‘t have given this show a chance if you hadn‘t convinced me with your episode 1 review and despite all its flaws I‘m really glad I did.

I did watch this ep- I wish the writing was up to the level of the cinematography. But the big misdirect reveal... nope, nope, nope and nope (I sense the hand of JJ here). Sauron: we all knew it was him LOL. I watched 1st\ last ep, the writing is barely day time soap level. Whats-in-the-box\ subverting does not substitute for good script writing.

I've not watched HoD and I never will (because I am so resentful of GoT's final two seasons even now). But I really have been won over to RoP. It's not great, but sometimes that's ok. Your remarks at the end of this video resonate so much with me. GoT's ending was not just a radical change in story-telling style with a poorly paced narrative & butchered character arcs, the ending was the most politically reactionary--borderline morally nihilism honestly--that I have ever seen in a hit global series. The idea that trying to improve yourself & improving the world is a wasted effort because trying to eliminate unjust hierarchy will just make things worse are reprehensible themes to convey to people. Since the end of GoT I have not re-watched the series & probably never will, but I have repeatedly reread both The Silmarillion & The Book of the Lost Tales & listened to Christopher Lee's reading of The Children of Hurin--so good!!--and greatly appreciated how much Tolkien presents hope & moral goodness as both legitimate & important (& I am not Christian).
