October 2022 Paton Update: Things that are coming... and things on my mind

So I've got a few things on my mind lately that I just need to talk about, and I'd love your thoughts on it, and on what I'm thinking of doing over the next few weeks/months.

You expressing how you’re feeling invoked a lot of feels for me too. How difficult it is to be authentic in a capitalist society, the reductionist reactions of detractors (and sometimes supporters), and how all of this drives all of us to pander to the simplest case, ignoring the nuance. And I get how calling this out and then just sitting back is nonetheless a lot easier than living an actual life trying to make it better. Regardless of the algorithms, I’m cheering you on. Sending you lots of love and support 💜

Nothing makes me happier than to see a woman relaxing outdoors in a I wanna say...hammock? with a vomming unicorn mug of something, talking about her creative endeavours! xo

World's always ending- pay it no mind, just watch more Sci-Fi. Never apologise for your point of view. Not everyone can walk in your shoes, so not everyone can be in agreement, so don't let it get down. In our own way, we're all fighting for a better world, that is our common ground.

One thing that seems clear to me is that you'll feel a lot better if you do more of the content you get joy out of and have fun with, ..it's easy to get burned out dealing with right-wing BS as you've so diligently been doing.

I can't fully imagine how draining it must be getting negative feedback every time you present your perspective on tv shows and films. Taking a step back from that and focusing on content that you enjoy making rather sounds like a good short term strategy. Good luck with getting the funding for the short film.

You are a gentle soul at war with the most primal social evils of our time. You're a warrior for the forces of empathy, but you don't have to fight the war continuously. You are empowered to engage or not to engage with the fool's who shout at everything unfamiliar. Does it really matter if a s#!t-head gets in the last word? Their heads will still smell just as terrible ;) Don't forget to feed your soul as you have done for us.

Putting out videos about news and reviews have kind of a short "tail". The freshest takes grow stale the fastest...it must be exhausting to feed that. HOWEVER.....more personal things like your Sonic experience my seem to be niche, but re-conjuring moments from your own experience are HUMAN first...not merely part of the queer experience. Haven't we all had moments where the lights go on in our heads and illuminate the way for us? Haven't we all bad those moments where we lead from the beart? Art exists to bring perspective? THOSE are the things more likely to have a longer tail, effecting more viewers over a longer period of time. Right now, you're in the ongoing process of devising how to make a living, out of who you ARE...no small accomplishment that! Churn doesn't just happen telemarketers...artists have it too.

I totally know what you mean about the tension and the discourse. You just want to say a thing, but there's an anxiety that comes with being visible in the current environment. And it truly is exhausting. Surely, I can only imagine, it must be exhausting for all involved, on all sides. And yet, it continues. I don't know if there is any escape, unfortunately.

I love Princess Weekes. I'm so glad you are talking to her. I discovered her during the Johnny Depp/Amber Heard trial because she was the only person on YouTube supporting Amber Heard. She said exactly what I was thinking, but said it better than I ever could. I will always remember that because I felt like the only person on the planet who felt that way until I saw her video. I like the idea of making videos/films you'd want to see. I once re-wrote a book to make it something I'd want to read. Iol. maybe it was waste of time because I could never publish it and make money, but it made me happy. I still think it was worth it, so I think you should do what makes you happy, too. And people who want to see it will find it. There may be more people who are interested than the people who want conventional stories think. Happy October!

Thank you Jessie for being such an incredible creator, I'm so excited to see new and unique videos from you. Having severe anxiety myself I understand the pressure of sticking to the status quo and doing something cause others or society expect that of you. I know I'm not the only one to be excited by this announcement but, I hope you know we all support and love what you put out into the world! So here's to those unique stories that make you... well you!
