Did House of the Dragon REALLY Bury It's Gays?

The latest episode of House of the Dragon had a wedding, and a murder of  a gay man. Always a fun time in Westeros, so lets talk about it.

Fair, totally get it

I need to sit with this for a little while. I took the scene almost in the opposite way, as a critique of Cole's actions. I didn't really think they were being portrayed in a positive light - and i ge that you aren't saying that it is either - but I'm going to take a little time to think about it doing more to villainize the action. I *do* think we need to wait to see what reactions people in the world have to determine if it is going to be more clearly critiqued, or if it is going to be glossed over to really get at the meat of this debate.

Yeah... that's a 10000000000% fair reason to not watch it cause... yeah it can be a lot for that

<3 Princess Weeks is wonderful and I loved talking to her about it

I left an incredibly long comment on Princess Weekes' recent video on HoD, so as to not just repeat myself, tldr; I personally don't watch HBO's adaptations of ASoIF, but I very much am in the circle of folks who do, and I just really can't get over how much HBO's ASOIF adaptations encompass all the issues and problems plaguing modern media, especially adaptations. (Re Princess Weekes' video, she mentioned y'all talked HoD in it which I was absolutely *thrilled* to hear! Y'all are both excellent.)

That was my exact reaction. This may be where I get back off of the ASOIAF show Rollercoaster again tbh

Thanks for the heads-up! I decided early on that GoT was too cruel and graphic for me, and now I don't need to start watching HotD either. That leaves more time for shows that are actually compatible with my C-PTSD.

Hey Jessie, thank you for the fantastic analysis. I often turn to your videos to help better articulate how I’m feeling on many issues because you always seem to be able to put these things into words so much better than I ever could. I’m also a trans woman and was really upset by the ending of this episode of House of the Dragon. I think it played out a very real fear that a lot of queer people have, complete with the perpetrator seeing no repercussions for his actions. Something about the shot of everyone moving away from his body after he’d been killed, as if no one cared except his lover, was really upsetting to me. I imagine that scene from the perspective of someone with intensely homophobic views cheering Sir Criston for his actions. So, I think this episode was my last straw with the show, it was too upsetting. Don’t let people prey on your insecurities. You are very eloquent. Thank you for doing what you do. You really help a lot of people like me articulate how media impacts us. 🖖
