Beloved Star Trek Episodes That I Hate

From The Inner Light on Star Trek The Next Generation to Star Trek Picard's Nepethe, let's talk about my controversial choices for episodes that are beloved by Trekkies... that I actually dislike.

Haha yeahhh that one was... uhhh not great

What about the fact that STtNG had the characters get exposed to the same virus that made Kirk's crew pop their I'd

UGH! So much world-building potential squandered for cheap angst! Oh, it makes me so mad! BUT! Del Arco was on the Paramount lot a couple months back, so I'm hoping hoping HOPING! that he was there for discussion about returning to the franchise in some shape. Preferably xB-shaped in a Seven-lead spin-off show. It should just be a rule of NuTrek that all queer Hughs get one "get out of death free" card. Especially if they have nanoprobes that would make their return easier to handwave than most.

Now that... is entirely true

Hugh DESERVED SO MUCH BETTER. It still angers me, he really could have been such a great way to explore so much in Trek. A post-Borg society for one! Not to mention making the character actually gay. Ugggg

Take NO PRISONERS - thanks for the clear eyed look at the show we all love. husband and I are just nodding along (sometimes angrily at the writers).

I always hated that scene with Spock at the end of "The Enemy Within" although it hadn't occurred to me that Kirk, as the accused, should never have been allowed to interrogate Rand, Captain or not. In "Enterprise", I had hoped they would be able to make good decisions instead of "The rules say we have to do this", made even worse by Archer often invoking rules that don't even exist for over a century yet.

What about the episode that had Data aay, "It's me!"

ok, counter point. we don't know what else they were doing with the science, and reducing carbon emissions and wind and ummm solar panels or ummm carbon capture or relocation and things? and stuff?

omg, you don't love The Inner Light???? [falls down ded]

The Inner Light hits a lot different these days. "Our entire planet is undergoing runaway warming and drought conditions? Let's throw all of our resources into a single vanity project space ship (which may or may not be shaped like one of our genitals) while not taking steps to curb population growth or literally ANY other measure to ameliorate the coming catastrophe!"

Oh, I have always got time to be salty over Nepenthe. 😑 I like modern Trek overall, but Picard has been a sharp disappointment. Hugh's death in particular was a lazy, manipulative decision that I just can't forgive, and makes this my most loathed episode of the new era. The death itself serves no purpose except nostalgia wank to get Seven back onscreen in a nonsensical way, and it actively makes the regular characters look worse. Picard leaves Elnor and Hugh to what he knows is almost certain death and never shows another lick of concern until he's faced with the crashed Borg cube, and even then his tut-tutting about the circumstances of Hugh's death just makes me want to shake him. Elnor swears himself to the xBs and then, because the creatives didn't actually care enough to give that plot any resolution, he and Seven seem A-OK with just abandoning them leaderless on CS. Hugh deserved better than that, and so did the audience.
