Star Trek Picard 2.09 "Hide and Seek" REVIEW & BREAKDOWN

They are the best part of an increasingly disappointing season.

Agreed - Agnes and Queenie have been the absolute highlight of this season. They're absolutely killing every scene they're in, singularly and together. From the way it was phrased, I reconcile Seven's rejection by Starfleet with Icheb's fate in S1 by headcannoning that Seven stepped away before Janeway went full lock and load, but Icheb let Janeway go to the mat for him and actually got into the Academy. Agnes has got to stop making AI copies of her dead friends. It's just not a good habit. XD My guess is that a lot of the butterfly effects are going to be glossed over when we hit whatever do-over happens to give Picard a chance to extend the hand of friendship to Queen Jurati. I wouldn't be surprised if Rios chooses to stay behind, but winds up being overridden by the needs of the timeline and ends up back on the bridge of the Stargazer anyway. The cap to Raffi's issues landed oddly in a couple of ways for me. The holo-Elnor absolving Raffi of her guilt felt cheap - I suspect it's telegraphing that the finale is going to be so crowded that Raffi and the real Elnor aren't going to get a heart-to-heart once the timeline is restored. The other part was her encouraging Seven to join Starfleet. Coming one episode after the reveal of her manipulating Elnor into Starfleet because she doesn't want to be alone, it felt like she was pulling the same stunt, especially with Elnor dead now. I know the intent is supposed to be that she's sincere now that she's owned up to her flaws, but there's so little space between all of it that it doesn't feel resolved. The whole season still feels a bit lopsided in terms of focus and pacing, but this was a step up overall from the last few episodes.
