Whelp, it had to happen eventually... an episode of Star Trek Picard that I didn't really enjoy.

I actually loved the backstory with Raffi and Elnor. Trek often shies away from allowing their heroes do something truly irredeemable. They always need to put some sort of spin on bad choices, which allows the offending character to save face. I thought this was excellent character development and makes so much sense given how lonely she was being estranged from her own son and family (take note Disco writers to show me rather than tell me). Regarding making her icky and unlikeable, I think everyone is manipulative like this sometimes and unaware of it. It was shitty but I get the sense that she wasn’t self-aware about it at the time, and I can forgive her for it and continue to love her.
