The Wheel of Time series is a famous epic, now adapted by Amazon, and I've never read the books.... so here's my thoughts.

"The Wheel of Time" Ep 1 -3 Review BY ONE WHO NEVER READ THE BOOKS

Ohh, I want to know mooooorreee. Gonna read the books after teh season ends.

I've read all the books. I'm glad to hear thoughts from someone who hasn't. That being said, if this became the same phenomena as Game of Thrones, I'd be surprised. They are very, very different kinds of stories. I'm not going to spoil anything for anyone. What I will say is that it is supposed to feel a little Tolkeinesque in the beginning, before Jordan begins to deconstruct that kind of narrative. So the impression here that this is similar to other things is intentional in the beginning of the work. I'll be honest; I've only seen bits and pieces of the show. I'm not a purist. In fact, among my friends I tend to be the one that rolls with changes in adaptations with the greatest ease. But that is typically because either the change makes sense to me for some practical reason, some narrative reason, or acts as an actual improvement to the work by strengthening an arc, a theme, -something- along those lines. There have already been a LOT of changes and for me, I just can't see that they meet those criteria. It seems like changes just to change things. In some ways I think they are trying to "update" parts of the story, and in some ways that I will get into another time if Jesse reviews mre of these, the narrative could use that. But not in other ways. Some of the things they have changed are almost lore-breaking, and not in a minor or inconsequential way. If anyone wants more of an explanation to that statement let me know and I will give it, just after a heavy spoiler warning. For now I want to just leave my feelings here.

Thanks for the review. I listened to books 1-3 years ago and don't remember anything.

Nice! Thanks for that!

Oh thats so nice to know!

My thoughts too, but I'm excited to watch the series and read the books.

There's a great fan-site that does chapter summaries, etc., all in one place. It's a good place for even a dedicated reader to catch up. http://encyclopaedia-wot.org/

Well. You were right about Dune.

The young actress who plays Egwene (Madeleine Madden) is a First Nations Australian from a very respected family. Her grandfather (who has passed away so keeping with tradition I will not write his name out of respect) is especially revered.

I promise to watch this, but you should really read the books. Also before seeing your review, I’d say B+ for the series thus far and it seems executives are to blame for most of the downsides.
