Paramount DELAYS Star Trek Discovery Season 4 To 2022 For International Fans

Two days before the premiere, Paramount has announced that Star Trek Discovery Season 4 won't be premiere tomorrow for Trekkies outside the US and Canada... and that really sucks.

Paramount DELAYS Star Trek Discovery Season 4 To 2022 For International Fans

Comments

This was definently a low move by Paramount to get subscribers, they could have made season 4 available temporarily on Netflix as a way to draw people over to PP+ later. I wonder how many people actually will wait for it internationaly as oppossed to using a VPN service or other options.

Paramount, show us how you want your show to be pirated without *saying* you want your show to be pirated. The real kick in the face is less that it's happening but more the timing. Waiting until the last minute is just really mean. I'm really hoping we can quickly get out of this era where each company thinks you'll pay them a full subscription because they show the one or two shows you want to watch, and aren't even making all year round. I hope they either crash and burn and everything goes to either Prime or Netflix again or some sort of consortium deal emerges where you perhaps pay more than one subscription to one service would charge but less than subbing to all of them individually.

Apparently Paramount + will be available from next year in my country but tbh I was already finding myself to care about Discovery less and less, I would have watched S4 out of habit - and maybe you’re right and they *will* fix some of the issues (mostly in terms of story, the characterization mostly works for me as is) and it would have been the season to rekindle my interest in it….but that’s effectively killed the goodwill I still had for it It’s not even the delay in itself: as you said, we don’t know what happened behind the scenes, and I want to believe that they wouldn’t be so grossly incompetent as to “sleep” on the information for weeks or months, i.e. that the ill timing isn’t of their making. No, what is really annoying is the way they chooses to communicate this, and the wording. A simple press release. Not a single word of apology for the delay, for announcing it so late, let alone for all the people who are now left in the dark as they are not part of Paramount + release plans (apparently expending globally = expending to Europe?). FFXIV’s team have shown it is possible to announce a last minute delay to a big franchise while showing respect for their fans - would that Paramount’s PR people had taken note….. PS: apparently some people have taken their anger out on the actors of the show, which is obviously a horrible and unacceptable thing to do regardless of how upset one is about this whole situation, especially since they have no influence on this

Paramount+ has been handling international roll outs horribly. In my country both seasons of Lower Decks were released this year, and the second season only recently, and Prodigy has not been released yet.

It's as if Paramount wants to actively kill any residual hype I had left for anything Trek. As it stands I'll ignore the topic from now on, have to in fact, lest I get spoilered. Or I'll try to get the episodes somewhere, but frankly I don't even have the energy to go look for a source anymore. I'll continue my SG-1 rewatch and then order the Voyager DVD box I've been meaning to get.
