How Dave Chappelle's "Cancelling" Weaponizes Transphobic Division

There has been a fallout from Dave Chapelle's special The Closer that I think is just as important to discuss as the special itself at this point, such as the protests, the Netflix walkout, the backlash, trans leaders being accused of racism, and Chappelle’s supposed canceling as well as Chapelle’s uh… interesting response to all of this. As well as some things that I didn’t really discuss in my original video, namely around Chappelle’s trans friend Daphne who killed herself after online harassment, something Chappelle discussed in the special.

I don't believe in "cancel culture" as a term, nor do I agree with it. I've said this since people started using it, and stand by it: It's something people keep screaming when they're held responsible for their own actions. It's a quick way to avoid taking any accountability. And it's truly fked up, that people actually think it's a thing. It's not cancel culture and such a thing doesn't exist. Just my opinion. Dave deserves to be called out and talked about. That doesn't equal cancelation of any kind.

At this point while I'm upset with Chappelle's behavior I'm furious at how Netflix has handled this whole situation. Particularly how they've treated their trans employees.

Okay, I stopped at the discussion of Daphne Dorman's suicide. I know you mean well Jessie, but I can't. Gonna skip the rest of this one.

To be perfectly honest I don't want to cancel Chappelle. I just... don't want to hear from him, or about him, anymore at this point. Sorry. Out of spoons.
