How Transphobes Weaponize Burnout Against Neurodivergent Trans People

Burnout is weaponized against transgender people by hate groups like “TERFs” or the alt right. But… I also want to push that a little bit further… because there is a huge overlap between the autistic and transgender community… and I think that intersection often gets forgotten, especially in how transphobia is particularly destructive to neurodivergent and autistic trans folks, especially when it comes to this burnout.

Thank you for joining, and thank you for begin amazing. It's always hard to keep above water, but we're stronger then we think

I do love Dark City, it's a good movie!

You two should review Dark City!

Even as a non-content-creator I'm constantly teaching people trans/nb 101 just to keep my head above water, and often I don't even have the capacity to do that. I can't fathom how much worse it is in the public eye! I just found your stuff recently and joined your Patreon after watching this one. Looking forward to what you've got coming!

The ping pong balls thing has been a major factor in my life since coming out as nonbinary. Even answering the question "WHAT DOES IT MEAN" on a regular basis has really added to my stress levels. I've been considering getting a series of pamphlets, telling people to read them on their own time/when they get a chance. People are so obsessed with framing and "understanding" and I'm learning more and more that people don't have to UNDERSTAND something to respect it. I wish I could just give people prewritten data and let them move onto talking to me about what I'm passionate about. I am blown away by the length and consistency of your videos--it really is SO much work and I love your commitment to your voice. I even feel like 2 videos month is even SO impressive. I was in a master class once taught by a really experienced opera singer and she said "singing can't be your entire life, you have to live a life outside of singing to really be able to sing with your voice and bring your experience to what you are singing about." (or something like that). I'm excited to see what you make when you can spend more time living your life and finding your vitality. Thank you for doing this video: the pingpong thing is so relatable. It's huge.

On a more positive note: your essay videos' production values are getting better and better. 💜 And yes, it's just a bathtub this time, but it's also the writing, the editing, the lighting. PS: good decision.

I don't think I'm actually autistic (at least I never saw reason to seek a diagnosis), but I strongly relate to that feeling of constant exhaustion. On the outside I have a stable, comfy and rather well-paid nine-to-five job. I'm not out at work, so there's currently no harassment either. Yet even on a good day I'm no more than functioning, and barely at that; I'm constantly out of spoons. And if I make the mistake of engaging with transphobia online, I pay for it for days after. I've read somewhere burnout is a form of depression. To me that makes a lot of sense.

i love that you’re talking about neurodiversity and trans people and social justice. i often feel alone because i don’t see it talked about often, especially at my very neurotypical, elitist institution. thank you, jessie!
