I love She-Ra, at least the new one, so wonderful.

Jessie Earl

How was She-Ra?

Jessie Earl

You ever see hbomberguy's video on the movie?

Vince Whitacre

Lol wow I don't remember. 🤣 I loved the movie at the time, though I think it was only because I got to hear cartoons swearing. That was pretty rad for a 10 or 11 year old lol.

Vince Whitacre

Cool. Maybe we were there at the same time. Did you get the premier day voice changing optimist prime toy too? Looking back on it, it wasn't that great. That plastic straw that went in the mouth couldn't be sanitary. But it was neat at the time.

Only got to see the first three minutes of the video before I decided "yeah, I want to watch it" so I'll have to come back when I'm caught up. I never saw Heman or Shera as a kid, even though I'm in the right generation. I just finished binge-watching the entire Shera reboot over the last week or so and it was almost like it was made specifically for me. I loved it. Doesn't sound like Heman is going to have the same feel, but I figure I'll give it a try.

Revelation felt like the showrunners were excited to play with the entire Toy Line from their childhood. It rained Easter Eggs, but I think that they didn't distract from the story that was being told (like all the ridiculous vehicles, weapons and cameos) I recognized the vehicles and cameos from the toys and the 80s show, but also never felt like the lore of BeastMan's battle truck, Stink-or or Fisto were necessary to follow the plot. For those characters and things that did need to be explained, I appreciated the time taken to give concise backstories. Roboto especially. He's explained as being the creation of Man-At-Arms (Duncan) and that he has been programmed with all Duncan's knowledge. His story arc wraps up in a very sweet way. This show was never gonna be the subversion of He-Man that She-Ra was. Which was a very smart choice. She-Ra as a setting is malleable enough to tell that story well. And even with that, well, we've heard the controversy ad nauseum. He-Man subverts this lore in a different way. It's most definitely aimed at grown-up nerds. The original daily cartoon-mercial would never have had characters dying even in vague plot deaths. Skeletor's line after being run through was pitch-perfect, "after all these years, you finally used that sword the way it was meant" (or words to that effect). The thing is, when many of us played with those toys, the stories we made were full of death and mayhem. Because we were kids and even though dismembering our toys was part of the fantasy, those characters were always there for us to play with the next time we dug em out of the toybox. I have one more point. The character deaths in the story weren't diminished for me because I knew that most, if not all of them are coming back by the finale. There was a communication from the characters that they weren't aware of the plot. Orko doesn't wink at the audience when they sacrifice themself to banish Scare-Glow. He-Man doesn't reassure any of us that he'll be coming back from Preternia when he calls down the Power in that first episode. (which by the way, the image of He-Man separating the power sword in all that lightning is gonna stick with me for a long long time). Those characters die knowing that this is their end, and when/if they come back they won't be expecting that opportunity to do so. The hook's set, I'm interested on seeing where part 2 takes us.

My first exposure to He-Man was a book on tape set in a classroom in the 90's. I also watched several of the 2000's series episodes when they aired. I loved Revelation watched it all at once like a movie, I didn't have a problem with the focus being on Tela and the other characters because it was so we'll done, I expect with the second set of episodes the focus will go to Prince Adam/He-Man. BattleCat is still Kringer. So, it represses his fear. So I am not totally sure. But it isn't supressing his will, just taking away his inhibitions. Is it like dragging your shy loved one to a party that they then enjoy? Or is it different because it is dangerous? (Even thought Battle Cat is strong, skilled, and enjoys the action). I side with the fact that Battle Cat still has all Kringer's memories and could walk away if he didn't feel comfortable.

I saw the (original) Transformers movie opening weekend in the theatres... and yeah, Rodimus was a bitter pill 🤣

Vince Whitacre

Those transformer films hurt me.....worse than Rodimus Prime did. OUCH

I do have the touch stones to the show. I watched it every morning before school. And we enjoyed it very much. There wasn't nearly enough kringer for me. And I am worried about those original characters, that you all wouldn't feel the emotional connection with if they weren't in the show any more. So I am scared that some important characters won't be around. I LOVE that the bad-guys get more character development here than the old show. Over all, it his all the right beats. It feels right, even if everyone looks slightly wrong (but it is probably for the best---but not the same).

Athough my spouse thinks he might have been there, but now is unsure.

I didn't see him. Although, I might have missed it.

Please tell me they still have FISTO

"After" work, or on a slow afternoon *at* work...

Looking forward to catching this after work! 🙋‍♂️

Vince Whitacre

Even though I'm of the right generation, I was never into He-Man, either (I was a Transformers kid... and NO, the Michael Bay travesties DON'T COUNT). I did watch She-Ra sometimes (hmmm... 🤔)
