The story has nothing to do with giving the kid a role as a "wolf lookout". The point is that if you lie repeatedly, then people will have trouble trusting you in the future, which can have consequences. A very true and accurate lesson to teach

Real talk, I really hate the story of the boy who cried wolf. It's an excuse for adults to not take responsibility when they leave a kid unattended. Like, if you knew you weren't gonna believe the kid again then why the hell did you give them the same role?
