Thank you for sharing ❤ as a queer, disabled, Jewish, nonbinary person, I've dug out a small corner of the Internet for myself thats pretty safe, but I have the ability to create that by not being a large(r) creator, like you, Jessie, and by liberally blocking & muting folks. It's really important to highlight the ways that systemic oppression/marginalization express themselves in interpersonal interactions as you do here bc, as you mention, the lack of perceived consequences for people who spread online hate only serves to reduce inhibitions.

I think your comment about being a 'little broken' is on the right track - but I disagree with the characterization of ppl being 'broken' and would suggest that theyre people who need therapy but haven't gotten it (lbr most people on the Internet/generally). As human beings, we (unintentionally and intentionally) hurt each other, which can *really* impact the way someone interacts with the world, without even beginning to consider the dynamics of privelege/oppression irl and online

I greatly appreciate the words on how to become a better ally and friend to the trans community on a day-to-day basis. As a cis person, I'm not always sure the best way to be an ally, so the guidance is welcome.

You sould!

"John Gabriel's Greater Internet F*ckwad Theory" - aka the "Online Disinhibition Effect." Normal Person - Consequences + Audience = Total F*ckwad. I'd disagree with the "Normal Person" part though - you have to be a LITTLE broken to go to the dark side like that. Seems like the last few years have just emboldened them more, even IRL. Sorry you're having to deal with this, Jessie, but also; thank you for being on the front lines and clearing things for the younger generation. I work with trans-youth and your content gives me lots to share with them.

Discord and basically anywhere else on the internet is less toxic than Twitter, except Tumblr. Somehow Twitter attracts pricks unlike the other platforms, but doesn't mean pricks aren't found everywhere. Because, there will always be unpleasant people. However, Twitter has it the worst.

I don't have the spoons for actual activism. So I am very thankful for people who have. People like you, Jessy. Re: the Discord, it's definitely a lot less toxic than e.g. Twitter. Maybe I'll give it another try one of these days.

I'm so sorry you've had to deal with so much hate. The fact that you continue to speak with all of that coming at you says everything about your strength. You're beautiful and so many of us appreciate hearing and seeing you as you are. <3
